1st POST!

I just started collecting (NES) a couple weeks ago, and I have been surprised to find that people actually kept the boxes from 20 years ago, so I've started buying the CIB games as I find the ones I want. What criteria should I consider when looking? I don't plan on playing the games from the original carts. they are strictly for collectibility. Here are some things that I'm looking for:

Box
-no stickers or sticker smudges
-no excessively worn top tabs
-no major creases
-no fading
-no excessive surface scratches on the box
-styrofoam insert is nice, but I don't look for it

Manual
-no missing pages
-no creased pages or page corners
-no rounded corners around the binding

I see the link to the Rarity Guide and Knowledge Base, but nothing is there. I'm assuming it's due to a hack attempt earlier this week? Great forum! I hope some of you experienced collectors can point my in the right direction.

It depends on personal preference. I prefer shiny carts, and minty boxes.

Your criteria is nice, but it really comes down to person-to-person preference. If that works for you, then you're set. And yeah, the "haxxoring" has left the guides down, but they'll be back soon.

Also, be sure to post in the "new people thread" that's stickied at the top of this section. Welcome to the boards. :)

I am in the middle of collecting every single U.S. NES game CIB right now. Let me tell you it is a task that will drive you crazy @_@ I have seen DP members start and finish loose NES collections while I turn the page slowly. :/

Let me tell you that it is very rewarding to look at all of those games displayed complete :-P

I for one am a bit forgiving on the condition of the box or manual. To find everything minty complete would be even more insane.

If you need any help , just send me a pm ;) Right now I am having a huge box and manual sale in the buying and selling forum. I havent had time to list all of the items , but I am taking request. 8-)

right on! thanx for the offer. I'll be checking out your b/s/t in the next few days. I am not planning on collecting EVERY cib game, but I do have a list of about 30-40 games that i'm looking for. i just wish i could get a ballpark of what an average CIB game goes for. I see a Demon Sword cib for like $70 in the b/s/t forum. I honestly don't know if that's reasonable. I gave $46 for a Metroid CIB mint, so there is a definite disparity between the prices.

and good luck to your collection, captain nintendo! props for the persistence.

...... 70 for demon sword @_@ LOL Um that must be a typo. Most I would pay is 10 - 12 dollars CIB. Also Metroid , maybe 30 tops CIB if it was minty fresh ;)

You really need to look at dp's online guide when it is back up. Also just check on alot of finished ebay auctions over a period of time and that sometimes is a good way to tell what the market is currently.

Hope that helps you some :)
