View Full Version : What should the next DS have?
I know the DS just came out less than a year ago, but I keep wondering what the next one will have. If the DS keeps being successful I figure they will make another one. Things that I feel should be worked into the next one are:
Camera
Better Microphone/with online capabilities
Dual Touch Screen
Tilt Sensor
A screen that can be worked horizontally or vertically.
Web Browser
Some sort of anolog stick
Any other ideas.

I don't know?
I honestly like DS but I would much rather see a different handheld in the future from Nintendo.

Camera seems kinda useless besides putting your face in the game, what are you going to do, move your face to control something?
Dual touch screen doesn't make sense because there isn't any backing to the top screen so it would be hard to push on it while holding the bottom
Tilt sensor=good
Screen that can be changed, seems like it would have too many moving parts, unless you're talking about sideways playing a la wonderswan or lynx. Thats just programming.
Web browser should be done NOW.
Analog stick also =good.

Dual touch is the obvious answer. Although if it's anything like the original GB was we're not looking at another unit for a long, long, long time.

All that stuff could be done through updates and add-ons. I say keep the DS as it is. It's a game machine. Let the PSP get all the high-tech stuff. The DS screens are too small. To me, they would seriously hinder the quality of anything put on it. The PSP screen is just right.
Nintendo, keep the DS as it is.
Well I'm sure the game programers could find other things to do with the camera besides putting your face in the game.

Just a little thought (It would be hard to do though) : taking a picture of your dog and then playing with it in Nintendogs would be interesting.
howzabout we focus on what it needs right now.... Some Games!!! I love my DS, it has an amazing amount of potential. I cant stop playing Kirbys Canvas Curse, and I love Super mario 64 DS. But the DS needs some killer apps by this christmass at least. Hopefully Mario Kart DS, New Super Mario Bros. Metroid Prime hunters, and Animal Crossing DS will be the answers to my prayers. But as far as the next one goes. I think they should redesign it with an analog stick, or nub like the PSP has.

The new Castlevania will be good, and importers I guess are having a blast with Jump Superstars.
I believe our Killer Apps aren't too far off.
Edit: Analog.
I love my DS. At first I wasn't sure where it was going, but know I know and I love where it's taking me. It's been a while since I actually sit down to play any system. The DS has allowed me to get back into gaming with games like Advance Wars Dual Strike, Nintendogs, and Metoes.

How about 10 times more games?
That´d help...

A built in E-Reader. I still think this thing had a lot of potential for expanding games and cheaply destributing light media to a handheld format, but it needs to be built in to the system to overcome the limitations of the original model.
Also, I like the concept and utility of memory cards for saving games and would like to see this on any new Nintendo portables.

Well my point was that the eyetoy is used so you can dance in front of the screen, but with a portable you are limited by the fact that its in your hands.
Oh and to jajaja, yes the DS has WLan. It can already play wireless from ds to ds, and mario kart and animal crossing are coming out soon to play online.

Like Indigo? :P
There are some limited edition ones you can get that are in different colours with some chibi(ish) Mario char pics.
Or you could just do some custom skins.

Yea. But you gotta think outside of the box. Maybe taking a photo of something and placing it as wall paper in your Animal Crossing House. Maybe some sort of focus color game. I'm sure programers could think of a million things.

How about one screen? I haven't really seen the utility in having two screens yet. It just makes the DS clumsy in your hands.
Besides that, analog control would be sweet.

That would kind of blow the point of the DS. DS = Dual Screen, Dual = Two. If it was just one screen, they'd have to rename it and everything, like to MS; Mono-Screen, or something stupid like that.

Agreed. I didn't want to say it because everyone would jump me. But yeah, remember the OMG AWESUM utilization of the Dreamcast's VMUs (logos logos logos)?

I think it's funny how the PSP already has a web browser, better sound quality, and analog. Maybe bringing the PSP out won't be bad after all for Nintendo fanboys ((like I think most of Digitpress is) this is not an insult), since Nintendo can learn from it.
I think the DS just need to stop being so gimmicky. Just frigging release a good system with two screens, though I don't ever look at the top screen, good sound quality, and an analog. Not too hard to do. The PSP only needs another screen.
P.S. (do p.s.'s work on forums?) I think touch screen is stupid. Too hard to use on the go, and most games is just doesn't add to the game.

If Nintendo wanted to make the next GBA a PSP clone that simply played Nintendo's games instead of Sony's, I would not be objectionable. I think I'm spoiled by the PSP's huge screen I cry when I think of what Mario 64 DS could have looked like had they made the large screen Nintendo portable they should have in the first place.
Actually I love the whole gimmick thing Nintendo has going on. After playing Advance Wars Dual Strike with a stylus I can't ever think of going back to playing with buttons. Games like nintendogs and meteos would be impossible to play. I really see where Nintendo is going. I do agree bigger screens would have kicked some serious ass.
I have a PSP as well, but I find it to be more of the same. I guess I need something new to interest me.

My only problem with the DS is the lack of analog control. As far as I'm concerned, 3D platformers like Mario 64 and Rayman are absolutely unplayable with the DS. I'm hoping we'll get some sort of analog control on the next DS. Other than that, I can't really think of anything.
