I've spent the evening talking games with pals and none of us could think of a single rubbish game featuring monkeys.

At the mo' I'm pretty convinced there are no crappy 'monkey' games this generation at all! I'm pretty sure some of you lot must know of some obscure games on the 2600 or something! So let me know so that i can dazzle my mates with my knowledge!! :D

The Latest Ape Escape comes to mind as Crap

Donkey Kong. Hehe kidding.
Crap for someone might be good for others so its not always easy to define whats a crappy game.
I.g Monkey Brains for PC. I liked that game, but some probly think its crap.

quite strange because I saw a stupid X-Play last night with a bunch of monkey stuff.

I would say there are not many bad ones.

An awesome one is Timespliters :2gunfire:

Coconuts? Zookeeper? King Kong?

I'll second that on Coconuts, but Zookeeper? I love that game.

Here's one for you, Monkey Hero for the PS1. That game royally stunk.

Monkey Hero was like a much stupider, kiddy version of Journey to the West [a very classic read].

That book could've created something great, you know.

I'd have to day that Zoo Keeper is pretty damn addictive! King Kong though? Which King Kong game is that?

As far as Timesplitters goes that's what started the whole conversation!!

Is the PSP Ape Escape that crap? I haven't played it yet but I just presumed that with it being an A.E. game it would have to be good! :(

No Ape Escape on PSP is nothing compared to the PS1 masterpiece or even the PS2 game. It is a decent game, but just not great.

Ever play Monkey Academy for ColecoVision? 'Nuff said.

Mat hit the nail on the head with that one. King Kong by Tiger vision for Atari 2600 is considered a DUD by most. Personally I don't think it's too bad... but I can see why most people hate it.

I played the PSP version because someone told me it was better than the PS1 version. Not true. With only ONE analog stick you do not have control over the net's swing like you do on the PS1 version. You end up swinging and MISSING, and it's very frustrating.

Would Sea Monkeys count, for PS1? That game SUCKED :(

Cosmic Carnage (Cyber-Brawl) for the 32X had a cyborg gorilla as a playable character. It was a pretty horrible game. I'm not sure if a cyborg gorilla is close enough to a monkey for the context of this topic.

The cart version of Congo Bongo for Atari computers sucked the big banana. I actually thought I'd gotten a beta/test version mistakenly packaged & shipped to the store- the game's graphics, sound effects, arcade replication, & overall presentation were just awful.

Also, I wasnt very impressed by Donkey Kong for the 2600.

Zookeeper?

How dare you! :P I love Zoo Keeper. One of my favourite DS games.

Anyway, anyone ever play Toki: Going Ape Spit? Does that count as a 'monkey' game? I didnt think that was too good.

Joe. :)

Defenders of Dynatron City for the NES features a monkey and terrible game play.

If cyborg gorillas do count, the Spawn game for Dreamcast wasn't very good either. This could be another rule. All games with cyborg gorillas suck.

Monkeyshines for the Odyssey 2 is the first game that came to mind for me.

For a second i thought you were asking for games *ABOUT* crap that featured monkeys (probably flinging poo).

Sounded like a tall order to me. LOL

Hmm... Toki?

Isn't that the one that some people say inspired DBZ?

Haoie

Not really. The only thing DBZ shares with the book is the guy's name, Son Goku.

Kangaroo.

Damn, I hate that game.

There's a game for SNES called Spankey's Quest which has a money in it. I've ever played it though, so I don't if it's any good or not.

It's looking like all the crap monkey games (with the exception of PSP A.E.) are on old(er) systems! It's good to see that the monkey has evolved into something great!! :)

Oh, there was Congo's Caper for the SNES, too. Actually, maybe that wasn't awful, but I don't think it was terribly spectacular, either.

Congo's Caper was a terrible monkey game...WAY too easy. It's a shame if you don't have 50 lives by the time you get to the final stage. (SNES)

Toki was OK at best. (NES)

Spanky's Quest was VERY fun and quite a quirky title. I definately suggest it. Never played the Game Boy version though. (SNES)

DP devoted a whole issue to the subject. IIRC Congo Bongo was featured on the cover.

do you remember when? I don't seem to recall that one... :embarrassed:

More to the point, are they any monkey games about crap? I mean, really, think about it, the two go hand in hand. Well, okay. One goes in the other's hand. And gets flung at you. Doesn't pay to think about it.

I'm gonna shock the hell outta everyone and say Monkeyshines for the Odyssey2. Maybe this is that rare case where I just never got to experience this game in all of its glory with a second player who "got it," but for the most part....it's my least favorite of the "challenger series" games and although I own it, I don't think I've played it since the last time I absolutely had to get a screen shot from it.

Oh man, I cant believe I forgot to mention "Monkey Math" for the Commodore 64. My parents got that game for me when I was in 3rd grade. I played it once, and never touched it again throughout my c64's lifespan. I think I still even have the disk...

Edutainment does not count :P . It's a common fact that all edutainment is shite! Not even Nintendo could get it right!! :D

(OK - Typing of the Dead is the esception to the rule - but the only one!!)

I'm going to leap in and defend two of the mentioned titles already.

I loved the arcade version of Toki. That was one of the only games they had at the Ski Chalet in the small town I grew up in. They never unplugged that thing. The quest for the top score was a matter of honor between a group of about twenty season pass holders. Never played the Genesis version, but the arcade and Lynx copies kicked ass.

Monkey Shines! That was the best game on the O2. My brothers and I would get in fist fights over that game. Nothing like shooting pissed off monkeys at each other. Where's the Xbox 360 version?

There are a lot of RPGs in which you can have monkeys in your party, aren't there?

The first that come to mind are Live-a-Live and Treasure Hunter G, but they were hardly crap at all.
