Actually, the hack is available, just as a ROM currently (it was done via disassembly and so an IPS would likely be quite large anyway), so obviously I'm not linking to it. There are only a few minor graphic glitches due to lack of VRAM, and the Knuckles pallet is slightly different to prevent discoloration of other sprites and objects. It works good, and if you couldn't tell, the pic I posted was from real hardware.

Ok, here we go. The RAR'd IPS is 394,007 bytes (the raw IPS is 551,231 bytes). The reason it's so big is because lots of code was moved around and some was removed.

Apply this to a standard US rev 00 Sonic 1 ROM (GM 00001009-00, checksum 264A).

Nice, I remember reading in an old EGM. That Sonic Jam on Saturn was supposed to have a feature to play as Knuckles in Sonic 1...sadly it didn't make it to the final cut :(

You could use the mdpro from tototek.com

You can fit up to 64 mbit of genesis and 32x games in it. It kicks a$$

You're thinking of Sonic 2. When you plugged in Sonic 1 you only got to play the Sonic 3/Sonic & Knuckles special stages.
