Just completed a trade with Maxlords where I acquired Montezuma's Revenge for the Atari 8-bits (on diskette).

I go to test it out yesterday and I notice that on the other side of the disk (the front side actually) is the C64 version. Having both machines I was definitely happy.

So of course now I'm wondering how many other games are like this out there. Just Parker Brothers stuff? Did other companies do this?

I believe both my originals of "Montezuma's Revenge" and "Mr Do's Castle" from Parker Brothers are A800/C64 flippies. Others I can think of off the top of my head I own are:

Temple of Apshai Trilogy (Epyx)
Ultima 2 (Sierra/Origin)
Frogger (Sega)
Forbidden Forest (Cosmi)
Slinky (Cosmi)
Spider Invasion (Cosmi) - this is a tape believe it or not!

There are plenty of them out there... a good check would be to run down a list of stuff on eBay looking for both A800 and C64 within an auction description.

Nice. Which version do you think is better?

It's always neat to kill two birds with one stone!

I have a complete Montezuma's Revenge for Atari 8-bit/C 64
I don't think I've ever tried out the Atari side thou. The C64 version is pretty good.

The manual is even the same for Atari 5200 & Colecovision! Four different systems, and only one manual! :)

Mayhem also mentioned Forbidden Forest by Cosmi, I'm assuming he was referring to the disk version, but it was also released as a double sided tape like Spider Invasion.
I actually have one in this auction. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3543&item=3002395714)

I've never seen Mr. DO!'s Castle for C64/Atari but the 5200 version has a 5200/Colecovision manual. So it's very possible they also made a double sided disk version with similar manuals.

A couple other double sided Atari/C64 disks I have:
The Eidolon by Epyx
Guderian by Avalon Hill. How rare is this!

Also I can't find it right now, but Super Huey by Cosmi I believe was a double sided disk as well.

And also, I don't have the disk to confirm, but Spy vs Spy, by First Star has a multi platform manual, Atari/Apple/C64 Could be an Apple/C64 or C64/Atari release.

I think at least the first Spy vs Spy was a flippie...

And yes, my copy of FF is on disc, but I figured that the tape version would be both games too (like my copy of Spider Invasion).

Mr Do's Castle for C64/A800? Take a look here :)

@VGA, @Mayhem: Very cool - thanks for the info. I think I might start seriously looking for these double duty games. It'd make a neat sub-collection I think.

@CongoBongo: I've played the Atari version before (since I had a pirate copy), but I didn't actually play the C64 version (just loaded it). The C64 version looks more polished, that's for sure. When the Atari version finishes loading you go straight into the game. The C64 version has a title screen and an option to start on different levels.
