then most of the Sega CD and 32X games that never made it, could have seen the light of day.

If there wasn't Saturn...PSX would have ruled my teen years probably...

I think Sega would have been better off financially not creating the Sega CD and 32X and just going with the Saturn. The add-ons didn't exactly take off, especially the 32X.

I don't think we would have gotten as many high quality "art" games like NiGHTS or Panzer Dragoon Saga. Sega would have kept acting like they had, and made some good games, but the Saturn was the console that took Sega to another level.

I agree with this statement, because to me, that's when "Sonic Team" established a true name for itself in the history of games when Saturn was around.

No Saturn for me means:

No Panzer Dragoon series, no Radiant Silvergun, Battle Garegga, Thunder Force V( Saturn version was better than PS for me) Sakura Taisen, tons of dating sims, XvS, MSHvSF, Kof Collection. Don't forget the 4meg ram. Saturn is a beautiful system.

how old are you....what kind of question is that from a retro gamer....many classics from this era were made for the Saturn first...Virtua Fighter anyone...if it were not around we may not have ever seen Nights, the PanzerDragon series...many sega classics may have just went away...

Ohh I disagree. I think it's interesting to think about that kind of stuff. Sometimes life seems to turn on a dime. I know I made some decisions that, at the time, seemed to be quite minor, but had a major impact on my life. I see gaming history sort of the same way. I could think of a dozen gaming "what ifs" that would have significantly changed the gaming landscape today (I will save those for a different thread).

In this instance, I would say that the 32X and Sega CD would still be non-factors. It's not as if Sega could compete with Sony or Nintendo with those systems. Funny though, when I first read your question I thought "not very much"...the Saturn doesn't have much of a legacy to speak of. Maybe a better question would be "What if Sega hadn't tried that goofy early Saturn launch?"

I think the 32X, coupled with Saturn's botched launch really hurt Sega in the long run. However, I think the Sega CD proved to be successful overall.

Back to the question, in this "what if" scenario, I would imagine that the extra titles would have done little to improve the lot of the Sega 32X. Genesis and CD titles would have continued to be produced for a few more months, but once developers started making PSX games, Sega/CD/32X ports would have been unfeasible for the dwindling user base. Sega would be hurting very much financially. If they still had the capacity to release a "Dreamcast" in this alternate reality, it would have been rushed out to save their bacon and probably not as technically robust as the one we currently have. If they took too much of a financial hit and could not afford another hardware release, they would have what they did post Dreamcast and we would have gotten Sonic Adventure as a PS1 release. The bottom line is if they had attempted to skip a generation of hardware, it would have ruined them.

LOL

If there was no Saturn then I wouldn't be in the spot I am now - just starting to rebuild my Saturn collection after a chance encounter with one at the local flea market.

Also I would lose a lot of memories I had in high school, modding them with region switches for extra cash after school in engineering class. :)
