Are you going to sell these? I don't see the need to put these here if you aren't going to sell/trade them.

Also, it's hard to put a value on stuff like this. If you sold it all at once, you would never get anything near the DP guide value it would have. But if you sold it separately, you would get much more. If you put it on ebay, good pictures might end up getting you 15% more.

It's hard to price stuff like this, even single games. The only real way to do it is with a range.

Staying on topic
Please limit your topics to BUYING, SELLING and TRADING items only. Asking questions of an item's worth, or what is a good price for an item does not really belong here. These types of question should be posted in the Video Game Forum (or Everything eBay if you see it on there), or even go look up the Online Rarity Guide. The only exception to this is an attempt to resolve a deal here (e.g. if people go missing and haven't been heard from in a while).

Moving to VG...

Im sure he would, but the guide is down at the moment :(

Also if he plans on selling these on ebay, the guide is not a good source. The prices in the guide are sometimes REALLY inaccurate, since they are not based on ebay prices, and ebay prices often tend to be highrer. And for sought after games (especialy rpgs) prices tend to be double, even triple the price in the dp guide.

He's new, so he probably doesn't even know that the guide exists. Espessially since its been down.

Can't get it online, get a hard copy. It shouldn't be our responsability to do his research.

If your a true collector your collection would be priceless to you. If you want to know the actual value, I always say something is only worth what they are willing to pay for it.

Unfortunately the guide takes about a month to arrive. Also hes just asking for a fough estimate, not a specific price for each. I would give him an estimate but I dont know the value of alot of games off the top of my head like many people here do.

The IGN game list estimates how much your game collection is worth. Plus some other stuff as well :

Favored platform: PC
Favored publisher: Nintendo
Favored developer: Sonic Team
Estimated value of collection: $2,584.56

But again it is estimated and its games only if im not mistaken but you can try it i think ive spent almost that much on my collection.

One buhmillion dollars - give or take a buhmillion.

I've seen plenty of large lots like this sell on ebay. I stalk them, every now and then you can get a steal. I think the value would greatly be affected by the number of the NEs, SNES, and Genesis games were in their original boxes. For many of these games the box with manual is worth more than the game itself. I would not expect this lot to sell for more than $1,000 on ebay if those games were cart only. If sold in pieces you might approach $2,000, but that's a lot of shipping to be fooling with (great for building a feedback rating though).

that's actually taking the words out of my mouth

it's really hard to put a price on it, especially since I know all my games are priceless to me, but I love collecting.

so can't really give you an estimated price.

Yeah it's QUITE rough. I think they list each game being worth ~$24 or so. It's too high for most games, although too low for some. But overall it's not too bad. I don't bother with the value part, but I enjoy the favorite Platform/Publisher/Developer part and it's also a great list for keeping titles and notes to go with them. :D

From my records, $11030.87AU has been spent on my collection as of September 7th 2005.

According to IGN, my collection is worth $8246.04US. Factoring in an exchange rate of $1AU = $0.75US, that works out to an alleged worth of $10994.72AU

Considering 95% of my purchases have been attained at LESS than their actual worth, I'd say IGN's pricing is way off.

Actually.. the IGN datbase.. as far as prices go.. is no longer being maintained OR updated. A couple of years back when IGN was tied in with a major game retail chain (which one.. escapes me now) they based their estimated values DIRECTLY on what their store "tie-in" charged. In other words.. you used to be able to buy games THROUGH IGN.. but they tied into Gamestop.. or the like.

So.. let's say you had a copy of Chrono Trigger to add to your collection. Once you did.. the value of your collection might go up by say.. $35; and if you bought a copy of CT from their Gamestop pages via IGN.. you'd pay $35 (I know this WAS the case because I thoroughly researched this one evening in their forums and their FAQ, and found this answer.. wondering and asking where they got their values from.). At the time however.. this wasn't very accurate as well. The reason? If you bought that copy of CT from them.. 99.9995% of the time.. you would simply recieve a bare cart. In fact.. the site would show a disclaimer stating the fact that one should realize; and count on getting a bare cart or CD MOST of the time.. as available. I never ordered 8 or 16-bit carts from them for that reason.. because I'm a completist. In fact.. out of about 5 or 6 current-gen titles I ordered.. only 1 ever came with a case and manual.. so I stopped. Now anybody also knows that a copy of CT with box-insert, manual & maps.. in any sort of semi-decent condition is worth.. or will fetch.. A LOT more than $35.. especially on eBay.

When the big game company and IGN stopped supporting each other awhile back.. I think IGN simply kept their pricing database.. and stopped updating it. I think I've pretty much proved that to myself because no matter what games I've added in the past year or so.. they ALWAYS seem to raise my value by never more than $20 to $25 exactly; anymore.

IGN is grossly undervalued in my opinion as well nowdays. Look at my collection.. I have approximately 650 games.. and MANY of mine are rare.. HTF.. or simply "wanted". Divide that 650 into the estimated value of $13,000 and you get about $20 per game.. value; as an average.. but 95% of my games are totally complete. Anybody would tell you that almost any complete "older" game is worth that much.. on a good day.. on eBay (NOT counting sports titles [of which I have NONE] or commons [of which I have few; i.e. Mario, Sonic, DK, etc.]). So you see what I'm getting at here? If all of my games are worth AT LEAST the $20.. but my Snatcher might be $75.. or my Metal Warriors might be $100.. then isn't my collection worth WELL more than $13,000? So I don't use the IGN figure as an accurate quote either.

As for the DP guide (whether online or printed).. while I respect and appreciate all of the hard work and research the DP staff has put into their "quotes" I take them even less seriously than I do IGN; because they seem to be even less grounded in fact (especially as someone said earlier.. when compared to eBay prices) and more based on what the author's themselves would LIKE to get these games for (DP members tend to be on the "cheap side". Sorry guys.. just my opinion.. let the flames begin. ;) )

I know that if I wanted to take the time ;and split my collection up and take nice pictures and list each game on eBay separately.. with a little marketing ingenuity and ploys.. I could easily double that $13,000 total.. when all was said and done, at the end of the day.

Ultimately and simply.. what it all comes down to at the end of the day is what someone else already eluded to earlier.. your collection is worth what it's WORTH to YOU. Which is why I haven't much sympathy for game "dealers" and a love for game "collectors".

Having said that.. I may very well have to sell my collection someday (sooner than later.. as a matter of fact). I started collecting several years back when I was taking care of my father who had Alzheimer's (since passed away). The state of Oregon paid me a piddly-dink wage.. for 8 hours of every day.. 5 days a week.. to take care of my father because it was cheaper for them; than to put him in a "care" home. It WAS a 7-day, 24 hour job.. and I would have done it for nothing; but I gave up my career to take care of Dad for the last 5 years of his life because Mom was too old herself. I was "housebound" with Dad and oftentimes.. sat up all night (if he was asleep) on the internet. I had nothing to spend my money on because I didn't go out.. but I've always been lousy at actually saving cash.. so I started collecting something I enjoyed anyways (games) knowing that they might become an "investment" as well for me. My Dad has since passed.. but I have continued collecting because I enjoy it.. and the community. I've stayed on living with my mother because although she has all her faculties about her.. she is quite feeble physically and needs my help now too.. as well; but now I've gone back to work at another menial job.

Someday.. my hope is to get back out "on my own" and buy myself something of my own to live in.. by myself.. whether it be a house.. mobile home.. or even maybe.. a nice RV. When that time comes.. I may also have to ask the "experts".. like you did.. what my collection is worth. I don't even care if I MAKE money on my investment.. just breaking even would make me happy (and I certainly would hate to LOSE on it) but I really won't know much more than a rough estimate; because I never kept track of what I paid for my collection.. as I amassed it.

Good luck though.

BTW.. Yeah.. I play them as well :) .
