Well, after hearing about all the emulation goodness on the PSP, I finally broke down and picked one up, firmware v1.5 plus a 1 GB memory stick. I didn't really notice it until today, but there are 4 dead pixels on my screen, 2 of which are barely noticeable. My dilemma is that the place I bought it from, Micro Center, only had 3 left. I chose that place because I knew they didn't sell that much and I would have a good chance of getting v1.5. I'm nut sure what the other two will be, but my odds aren't good, especially since once they're gone, a new shipment will come in, most likely v1.51 or better.
So do I exchange it, or just bite the big one and keep it.
Additionally, I've heard of a some app that you can run on yor psp to somehow refresh/restore the pixel. Has anyone tried this?
Edit: Of the 4 dead pixels, only 2 are very noticeable. of the other two, one is at the bottom of the screen and the other near the top, and very unnoticeable.

Mine doesn't have any dead pixels but If I did it would piss me off. But if you want to do emulation you may want to keep yours. They should be cracking 1.51 soon though. Mine came as a 1.51 but I have little intrest in using it for emulation. So I figure I will just update each time a new version comes out so I can get features like Web Browser etc.
The dead pixel fixer works for some people and doesn't for others. I think it flashes the screen or something.
I hear 1.51 and 1.52 will soon be craked. THere is a way to see if you buy a PSP 1.5 or not on the sticker outside the PSP box. I don't know what to look for but as around in pspudates.com

I now gotta wait for 2.0 to be cracked. Sony sent me an e-mail saying I can be part of the Socom PSP Beta Test - I had to upgrade my firmware and register through the PSP Browser.
WHen I finally did, a couple days later, all the beta slots had already been filled. :(
That was a sad day.

A few dead pixels is not a problem, unless the games you play are all black with a few little pictures. Keep the PSP. Mines has like 6 and it is no problem with playing games.

The first PSP I got had OVER 16 dead pixels out of the box. I took that one right back to the store, and got one with about 6. That's apparently on the low end of things. So yes, I'd say keep your 1.5 with 4 dead pixels. Heh. Once you're playing Keith Courage and Parasol Stars on that baby, you probably won't be quite as bothered. ;-)
Don't worry about the dead pixels....you won't notice them while playing and your chances of getting a perfect one are a zillion to one anyways. Mine has EIGHT dead pixels and it doesn't negatively affect anything. Don't look for them....and you won't "see" them. The PSP bashing at launch because of dead pixels was just your typical occurance of people having to piss on every parade.

Dead pixels aren't a defect, they're a feature
On a serious note though, I have two laptops, and @ LCD monitors in my home and from what I can see I don't have one dead pixel on any of them.
On top of that, I fix computers for a living at Staples and I'm an authorized HP tech. I can't say that I go out of my way to look for them but I also can't remember the last time that I noticed a bad pixel on any laptop that I worked on. The same goes with the LCD monitors on the sales floor.
So to say that bad pixels are normal and expected with LCD monitors is stretching it just a bit.

I played on someones PSP and I said 'Wow, you're lucky you didn't get any dead pixels. I hear thats a big issue.' Responce 'What are you talking about, theres 6 of them.'
So, dont look for them and you wont notice.
(unless the screen is totally black)

Yeah I've got like 3 or 4 on my laptop. Never really bugged me, I actually thought they were kinda cool, lol.

You know, the cynic in me has always wondered if Sony deliberately makes its consoles flawed - fans, dead pixels - just so we have to buy replacement systems. I was willing to overlook the original Playstation (because it was such a great machine), but now it's getting downright wierd.
Should we start taking bets on what the PS3's inherant flaw will be?

(excuse me if I don't know the EXACT medium on which Sony will use...)
