Figures (from somewhere) have been released this morning, reporting that Sony have sold 185,000 units in the four days since the release of the PSP upon this great country. That's a record, ladies and gentlemen, and somewhat smashes the 87,000 DS' Nintendo sold back at their launch in March.

Furthermore, to quote EuroGamer..."...with nine PSP titles figuring in the UK's All Formats Top 10, and 20 out of the 24 launch titles breaking into the All Formats Top 40."

That is impressive - and unexpected, I might add. And to top it off rather nicely for retailers, it is estimated that this PSP launch weekend was worth over 50 million pounds. Go read the rest here (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=60767).

In Australia, Sony decided it would be a great idea to refuse to give independent game stores access to order PSPs for the Aussie launch, only letting chain retailers like Electronics Boutique (which, in all honesty, is the only one we have) and department stores sell them on the release date. They did, however, change their minds a few hours before the launch day. x_x

Did anything like that happen over in England, or was it just us getting screwed again?

That's a lot of people in the UK that want to play Emulated games ;)

Just in case this does become a war zone thread that no sane human being would walk through, please read my above comment in jest. Thank you for playing.

This first batch of Euro PSPs shipped with 1.52 firmware, which doesn't run emus (though a "downgrade" program is in the works).

They are working on a downgrade? If I do buy a PSP - and I'm seriously contemplating it - I would rather they cracked the current firmware. I'm desperate for some handheld Monkey Island action! Desperate, I say!

Only the first batch of Euro PSPs came with 1.52. A lot of them are 2.0 from the off so I've heard. If you have 1.52 then the demo disk inside "invites" you to upgrade to 2.0 instead.

Please take my comment in jest. As I stated. I wasn't concerned with if it could play Emulators or not. It was a poke at how everyone here's main objective with a PSP is to emulate. Thank you once again for playing.

huh, i thought they were 1.43, and no, i bet there are no 2.0 ones, the thing is, if you insert the demo disc that's included it'll automatically update to 2.0 ;)

Yep, they're workin' on a 1.51/1.52/2.00 downgrader. The same hackers recently released a program that tricks a 1.50 PSP into booting UMDs that require 1.51/1.52/2.00 firmware, so they've definitely got the technical know-how.

Apparently, the most challenging aspect of the hack is that the downgrader has to be coded so that the PSP sees it as an updater program, since 1.51 and up won't run 'brew.

True dat, sir. I've already resigned myself to buying a second PSP for commercial games. (I almost had to do it for Battle Collection and PoPoLoCrois, but the pseudo-update program bought me some time.)

That shouldn't be that difficult (not that I know anything about programming PSPs). I run our antivirus program at work and on occasion we've received (and deployed) "bad" updates -- corrupted pattern files, which screw up everybody's antivirus program. To fix it, we use a program called "touch", which updates the date/time stamp on files to the current date/time. After doing that, our antivirus program sees the older update as being newer (since it does simple date/time comparisons), and pushes the older one out (a low-tech rollback, if you will). Just generally speaking, it sounds like they're trying a similar approach with the PSP updates. If you could somehow make the 1.50 firmware update look "newer" to the PSP, you could probably get it to flash. My guess is, Sony's using something a bit more sophisticated than date/time stamps though.

So once this "Rollback" program is released, can I update my PSP to 2.0, therefore having access to the web browser, but still play emus? Or will it uninstall the updates?

On a semi-related note, are there any good homebrew web browsers for the psp? Obviously I can use the Wipeout browser, but has anyone actually written a browser for the PSP that works well?
