I really didn't care for the game, but for what you get with it, $20 is great.

It says that it's available at my local store, but doesn't let me order it online for in store pickup.

Can anyone comment on the multiplayer on this game from their own experience? I enjoyed multiplayer Donkey Konga and I am wondering if I should check this out.

As a single player game, Taiko is better than Donkey Konga. Multiplayer it's probably edges it as well. More variety in the music and what you have to do. DK is good for people starting into rhythm action games, Taiko is the next step up :)

Agreed. I haven't played 2 player on Taiko Drum Master yet, but single player is load of fun so I'd assume 2 player is just as good with the main game and minigames alike. I know that Taiko is a better game for difficulty alone. Sometimes it feels as though I'm going to fall asleep playing DK because most (if not all) of the songs aren't even challenging. LOL

Yeah, I might pick up a second one for the extra drum. Also, my Taiko game dosn't work, and I'm hoping its my copy and not my PS2 finally starting to die.

I was doing a lot of the 2 player on this one for a while. I've got the red octane drum and it works as well as the Namco one. I got Taiko and Konga as well as an extra set of drums for each about the same time a while ago, so we were doing a lot of multiplayer with both games. I found Taiko to me more viceral as a two player game than Konga. The lack of clapping meant I could focus more on the music and the pounding you do on the drum seemed to help things get a bit more competitive than slapping the bongos. Also, the art style and general craziness meant we were playing a more Taiko than Konga overall. And it has the Katamari music, so really what else do you need.

Dang, missed buying it again! :hmm:

Because Taiko has four hit points on the drum as opposed to only two on the bongos, it has a total of ten different strikes possible whereas Donkey Konga only has 4 (with the clapping).

Left half of skin
Right half of skin
Both halves of skin
Left edge
Right edge
Both edges
Left edge + left skin
Left edge + right skin
Right edge + left skin
Right edge + right skin

Definitely not for the faint of heart on the highest difficulty levels ;)

No shit...

Actually spend some time with it. Play through all of the modes, unlock all of the songs, actually spend time like you would with any other game. It's not like it's overhyped or anything. It's an excellent music/rhtythm game and it puts Donkey Konga to shame both in song selection and difficulty (IMO). ;)

Wait a minute, there are beats that require you to hit the face and the edge at the same time? I've played quite a bit of oni, and I've not encountered that. Unless you mean you have to do stuff really fast together in any given pattern....

It was worth the $70 when it was released and is well worth $20, new to music games or not.

I found my copy at Fry's for 30$ and wasnt disapointed. For an entire week me and my family stayed up well past decent hours. Only problem I had with it was the song selection, and a number of the covers realy sucked. They sucked big time. I would have liked it more if they included more songs. Maybe not pop songs, but more namco game songs and just more in general. Beyond that, it was great. I wouldnt mind finding a second copy for 20$ just to have a good 2 player game. Would be interesting to see how well it could be done with 2 players being destracted by each others noise.

Sweet deal. My sister is going to the Best Buy near her home to grab me a set. I've been wanting to play this one for a while now.

One of the Best Buys near me still had 3 of these, so I picked one up. I actually only paid $15 for mine using one of these:

CHEAP ASS GAMER BEST BUY COUPON THREAD (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45296&highlight=mcdonald%27s)

You may have to be a CAG member to view them, but they are links to $5 off any PS2 or PSP game at Best Buy.

I wonder how much they are worth in trade at Gamecrazy. I may go back and pick up the other two if they are worth it.

I've already got one Taiko set, but just picked up another because I figured it'd be sweet to play with my little brother.

Problem? I play oni, and he's on easy. It would've been great if I could have played with him on my difficulty, but resorted to playing easy with him in order to get him to play at all. I don't see the design decision here, since most other rhythm games allow you to sort of "coach" a new player along.

By the way, for those Canadian gamers, Taiko is $15 Cdn at Toys R Us for the next two weeks. Snap em up while you can...it's an awesome game!

Wow. Thanks for the heads up. I've been meaning to get this again (I bought mine when it first came out at $70, and have never seen one cheaper, EVER). I guess now there's no excuse. 8-)

Just wanted to say thank you, to the person who mentioned the Taiko set being 14.99 CAD at Toy's R Us in Canada. I picked up the last one in the city, (Winnipeg, MB for those looking for the game), for my daughters B-day tomorrow. She loved Donkey Konga and played it to death. Literally. I had to buy new Kongas a couple months ago.

And to add to the post, Toys R us has piles of clearance titles on for 14.99 in Canada. I picked up Jade empire LE for Xbox, and Mechassault 2 LE for Xbox, but they have clearance titles for all systems.

Good luck Winnipiggians! Sorry though, no Taiko Drum Masters left.

I want to express my thanks for the Canadian heads-up. I also have wanted this game for quite some time.

If anyone in the Newmarket, Ontario area wants this, I left 4 behind at Upper Canada mall. ;) They were still labelled $54.99, but I had them check the price for me. I considered buying them out, but the high cost of shipping along with the bottoming out of the resale value would make it a non-profit venture.

Sealed Taiko with drum for the price of a common used game? WOOT!

Also, anyone concerned about it being polluted with French: the game is easily "de-Frenchified". Namco simply wrapped a loose French cover on the box and included a completely seperate French manual underneath this cover. The box and its contents contain no hint of French at all.
