The ruling Chinese Communist Party has announced an online game to promote patriotism and communist ideals.

The game which still has to be named, will be developed as a cooperative venture between the Communist Youth League of China and a content company based in Canton.

Players can take the role of 17 classes of glorious proletariat jobs (worker, peasant, etc). Players grow up through WWII, in a China under Japanese occupation, and must struggle through post-war civil wars and revolutions. The game's goal will be to initiate guerilla style resistance and gain the honor of the communist party and "develop the love for the motherland".

It might be a sign of the apocalypse, but I just can't take it seriously enough to think so. Wow! I can be worker or peasant. 10 more exp. to LEVEL UP! Yes, I've improved my grovelling skill. I've also got enough non-transferable monetary tokens to earn my tractor +1. LOL

Who on earth do they think that they will play this loosely-defined game? I'd hate to see the penalty for cheating on this MMORPG!

That's hilarious!

The first MMO to have a treadmill at which... no matter how hard you work... you NEVER GET ANY BETTER!

Level 1's will be ganking level 50's all the time!

The level 50 ultimate quest armor is only a slightly less shabby pair of rags!

The monetary reward for going on a fantastically epic quest is no more than bringing granny next door three eggs!

I love it!

What about for playing? The mods will probably be required to take away your items if you acquire to much or get some rare item, only on purpose now.

Ehh, it's just a ghetto version of America's Army :)

Then again, I think ~WWII era Japanese are a hell of a lot worse than modern era "Insurgents" *shrug* Nothing wrong with instilling a little nationalisim through interactive entertainment... especially when it's involving topics that the Japanese like to "forget" about.

Never forget!

Ah, I thought this would be a sim where you have utter control over other people's lives, have them under your constant surveilance and can even kill them at your whim.

That sort of game would truly revolutionize the sim genre.

Although i'm sure the game will "forget" about the amount of innocents slaughtered, abused, and tortured by Chairman Mao . A number which many historians put as higher then both Hitler and Stalin.

As for the game itself. Something to keep in mind about MMO's is that the looting/item accumulation system of many revolves around a "Need before greed" type of system in many cases. Which on paper, *IS* Communism. Granted that Communism has historically never worked like this, but a game would simply highlight the good points or idealized "vision" of what Communism should be. As opposed to the reality that it always was/is.

Rewards for teamwork, helping out you're fellow guildmates at the expense of yourself. Pride in overcoming a much more powerful enemy(Japan) to take over as the regions superpower. Will be interesting if it ever comes to light....

I heard it will be an X-box 360 launch title too with a pre-order "peasant" faceplate and a copy of Bill Gate's autobiography. LOL

You guys would be amazed at the anti-Japanese racism in China. Has Japan been lax in owning up to their (admittedly) terrible actions during WW2? Sure. But I can tell you that I heard outright racist comments from the majority of mainland Chinese I knew, and these tended to be young, college-educated people. I knew a number of Chinese who would leave the room when one of our Japanese friends came in. It's really quite sad, especialy when the government continues to provoke it.

As for communism - in the Eastern Seaboard cities of the PRC, I'd say most people are more capitalist than the average American. It's nothing like it was 10 or 20 years ago. They do love their MMORPG's, though - WoW is absolutely massive over there now.

That's part of the mods job function I bet, monitoring all conversations that take place by the users. Can't allow another Tiananmen Square come to pass.

I despise Communism but you people are hypocrites.

You don't think America hasn't played this garbage already, ages before? From the nore blatant like America's Army to the more subtle like the Tom Clancy games, these genocide simulations have already helped desensitize entire cross-generations to the value of non-American life. You cry for 'your troops'? Those genocial maniacs love what they are doing. They love taking Iraqi life. It is all but a game.

This is America. Not to be moronic like the Chinese and blatantly proclaim and impose oppressive ideals, but to subtly set into the collective conscience values, including the varying vaklues of various types of human life. To subversively lie, distort, and get away with murder. And you people here are the very product of that, laughing off some lame Chinese MMORPG as ridiculous government propaganda when your own government has you under the thumb of its very own variation 24/7.
