Man Picture Puzzle is addictive. I picked it up at CGE and am up to puzzle 180 or so... It's basically the same game as Mario Picross on GB (which I have yet to pick up).
Other than the Nintendo Picross games (GB picross, import GB picross 2, Super Famicom picross) are there any other Picross games out there?
Cheers,
Ben
Yes, for example there is Ouchan no Oekaki Logic (http://www.vgmuseum.com/images/ws/64.html) for WonderSwan and there are several Oekaki games under the Success SuperLite budget label (http://www.success-corp.co.jp/tuhan/platform/sl2000/oekaki/index.shtml) for PSX and PS2.

Thanks! Now I know to look for "Oekaki". I've finished the NGPC version so I imagine I'll be tracking down a Saturn or PSOne version soon :)

And here is another one. One of 505 Game Street's upcoming releases in Europe is a puzzle pack for PS2 (http://505gamestreet.com/tab_scheda.htm?id=65) and one of the games on it is an oekaki game.

Any ideas as to why not so many of these types of puzzles are brought over to the US? We've got Sudoku and all of its variations that have taken off like wildfire, but I can't get enough of the Oekaki puzzles! And all I've got to really sit down and enjoy is Picture Puzzle/Oekaki Puzzle on my NGPC!
'Tis a damn shame, I'm tellin' ya...
But are they relatively common in Japan, if not like how Sudoku is here at least fairly popular?

When Nintendo releases Picross on DS, maybe we'll get more domestic releases...

These games are a favorite of mine. Here are a few...
Saturn
Logic Puzzle Rainbow Town
O-Chan no Oekaki Logic
Playstation
NuPa
Playstation 2
Simple 2000 Series 2-in-1 Vol. 3: The Puzzle Collection 2000
Ds
Oekaki Puzzle Battle: Yuusha-Oh Gaogaigar Version
And those are just off the top of my head. Picross Ds just came out and looks great. The Simple 2000 game for Ps2 features 2000 different puzzles, though not all are of the "Picross" type. It also features Jigsaw puzzles and slide puzzles. Great value. My favorite of the listed games is easily Logic Puzzle Rainbow Town. Be sure to track that down first!

I'll have you gaylords know that this thread made me investigate and all of a sudden get massively addicted to Mario Picross.. I'm currently blazing through it. Thanks a lot! :grumble:

Picross Ds is said to have downloadable puzzles from previous games in the series. It looks great, but NCS has been out of stock for a while. Maybe Monday or Tuesday. These type of games are really suited to the DS. Unfortunately I only have Oekaki Puzzle Battle: Yuusha-Oh Gaogaigar Version
thus far. I haven't yet picked up the other DS releases. Do you recommend any of the one's you've picked up le geek? Any other info on them beyond your initial impressions in the other thread?
I posted a couple videos of NuPa over at Youtube and plan to post some of Logic Puzzle Rainbow Town in the near future. You can get to them via the link in my sig. The cool thing about Rainbow town is that the puzzles can contain multiple colors. If you have a way of playing import Saturn games I'd highly recommend it.

Well, Picross DS arrived yesterday and it's great. I knew about the ability to download classic puzzles, what I didn't know is that you can play wi-fi multiplayer! It's a race to complete a couple puzzles and making mistakes freezes you for five seconds. Totally worth grabbing!

DS Puzzler: NumPlay Fan & Oekaki Logic
I've finished this one and will post a full review on my site soon, but here's the short version:
+ Good stylus-friendly interface, 500 puzzles, and a good deal of them are multi-color
- many of the images aren't very good, when you finish a puzzle it doesn't colorize so it's hard to see what it is sometimes, feels like a budget title.
Overall I thought it was okay. I would pick it up for cheap, or if you wanted to try out multi-color puzzles
Puzzle Series Vol. 6: Illust Logic
I am about 1/3rd into this one. While the puzzles appear to be B+W only and the game plays better with the D-pad than with the stylus, it is a polished effort comparable to Picture Puzzle on NGPC. there are 300 puzzles in 10x10, 15x15, 20x20, and 25x25. The music and interface and the puzzles are just better.
Of the two this is the one I would buy. I'll let you know how the third one is when I get to it... :D

Ben

Essential Soduku was released in the UK last year & along with the 1000 number puzzles, there's 1000 picture puzzles. I haven't got round to playing my copy yet (I only picked it up when I saw it mentioned on the DSR forums) so I can't say whether it's any good or not. It was only £10, so I took a gamble. :)

Thanks for the thoughts le geek! I actually ended up ordering both shortly after posting. Unfortunately for them, they arrived the same time as Picross Ds so I haven't played them much. If you haven't grabbed Picross Ds, you really should. It's great fun and well worth playing.
