okay, before anyone goes berating me, yes, i'm actually planning on buying one of these systems. i'm not just making up random "which one is better" threads like someone we won't name here.(you know who you are ;) ) anyways, i have $140 bucks to blow, (birthday) and i am at a dillemma. should i save up until i have enough for an Xbox 360 this winter, or spend it now and get a DS? if you want to know, the 360 would be an upgrade form my xbox which has 25 games, and the DS would be upgrading from my GBA SP (4 games). thanks in advance for the help!

Damn that's a tough call. The only advice i can tell you is do you want something now or can you wait?
The DS already has some amazing titles like Kirby Kanvas Curse, Meteos, Feel the Magic XY/XX, Nintendogs, Nanostray, etc. but it also has a lot of interesting games coming out over the next few months like:
Trace Memory
Lost in Blue
Marop Kart DS
Mario & Luigi 2
New Super Mario Bros.
Castlevaina: Dawn of Sorrow
BIohazard: Deadly Silence
and lots more
However the 360 is a next gen system and it's got a pretty good launch line-up too.
I'm gonna abstain from voting because i honestly can't choose for you. However i will say that geting a 360 with a couple of games and accessorys will be considerably more expensive then a DS and some games. I'm looking at having $1200-1500 CAD to throw down on 360 launch day.

Buy the DS now. You can always save up for the 360 or PS3.

Go with the DS. Its here, its now, and it also has some good games for it. Also, the X-Box 360 is still a good bit away and there's no telling if you will have the money to buy the premium package, much less if the 25 games you have for the old version will work on it.

It's a choice between playing some cool games now or later. Personally, I've found it hard to wait. Go with the DS, get Meteos and a pile of great games, then start practicing your Mario Kart skills for November.

Helpful! LOL
I'm voting Nintendo DS. Quite simply, this handheld has changed my perception of gaming. It challenges me to play video games in a different way. And while I only own seven games - something I plan on rectifying substantially in the coming weeks and months - the DS is my current system of choice. The likes of Kirby Canvas Curse and Zoo Keeper just don't exist on any other platform!
Looking ahead... the array of releases lined up for the fall of this year, and early next, is stellar! Age of Empires, Mario Kart DS, Castlevania, Lunar, Viewtiful Joe, Guilty Gear, Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon, Snowboard Kids, Metroid Prime, Mario & Luigi, New Super Mario Bros, Jump Superstars (hopefully!), Sonic Rush, Tony Hawk's American Sk8land and Super Monkey Ball are just a sample of what is to come! No doubt there will be plenty more, too!
The Xbox 360 might be the future, but the Nintendo DS is for the present. You'll regret missing out!

cool, thanks for everyone's votes. right now i'm leaning towards the DS, since the only games i really like on the 360 are going to be released on Xbox as well. (Tony Hawk's american wasteland, NFS most wanted)

It totally depends on what you want it for. Its hard to rationalize buying 'one console or the other' when they are completely different things. If you want a handheld; buy the DS. If you want an awesome (assuming it'll be awesome) home console, shoot for the 360.

If you are even considering the Xbox 360, which with games will cost you 3 to 4 times as much than the DS, then you must save for it. Let's not compare DS games to 360 games please. Meteos, Zoo Keeper, and etc. are really cool games and all but since you have an SP you can get even better GBA games than those.
I've seen preownde Ds's for less than $100, and with a few good games, DVD's traded in you can get if for less than $70, in which case you should do your best to get both systems.

I vote that you go for the DS. There are some decent games out right now
Nintendogs & Advance Wars: Dual Strike specifically.
Plus there is some REALLY great looking stuff on the horizon
like New Super Mario Bros., Animal Crossing, Mario Kart DS & Metroid Prime Hunters.
In the end, if you wait for the 360 - sure that will be an awesome game experience - but it's going to cost you 3 to 4 times more AND you have to wait a few months when you could just get a DS now.
Plus, there is that cool Blue DS now that I want even though I have a regular Silver one...
It's up to you.
But if I was given the choice between a NDS & X360, I would take the X360 in a heart beat.

DS
This is one of the most fun handhelds out there. The games have gotten WAY better. Not to mention it is likely to give you much more of a unique gameplay experience than 360
which at the moment looks like it has 3 primary Genres
1.FPS
2.Racing
3.Sports
I would Buy a 360 when it is cheaper and doesn't have any bugs that may come with the first shipments.

Aren't most games these days FPS', racers, or sports games?
Anyway I'd pick up a DS. The games have alot of innovation, which alot(not all) console games are missing today. :)

I'd go 360, the DS price will only go down, we'll have to wait a while for the 360 price to do that. Plus looking at your collectin it seems like you're a console guy and not a handheld fan. If you got a 360 you could sell your xbox creating even more cash/credit that could be used towards a DS or some games. I know the 360 isn't fully compatible, however he'd be able to salvage some games from his xbox collection.

I would go for the DS as well. I mean you dont know enough about the Xbox 360 to buy it as soon as its released. So get the DS, enjoy it for a few years, then when all 3 next generation systems are out, you'll be glad that you didnt buy the Xbox 360 at that time since later on its cheaper and you get to see which games you want to play for which console in my opinion.

I'd go with the DS too. It already has great games out, with great one coming!
The 360 is looking pretty sweet though too. But I won't be getting one for a while, like when the price goes down about 150. Just too much money for me at the current moment.

I am amzed at how many people are choosing the DS. SUre it's the more cost effective, and it's a great system (playing Advance Wars now myself), but have you seen Gears of War screens or Oblivion, or Full Auto, or even Kameo. How about Need For Speed, Projexct Gotham Racing, Perfect Dark...etc. Release titles usually unimpress, but I think things are about to change....
Get a 360, even if you have to get the $299 model...buy Oblivion when it comes out, should give you 80 hours of gameplay by itself...

The gamegear....
Ok, for real you are comparing apples to oranges here. I would get the DS if thats all you can afford right now. Then you could wait on the 360 because even if you get it some time next year it will still be new.
