If the new Zelda isn't as big of a hit for the Gamecube as everyone thinks, you think Nintendo will stop making consoles?

Maybe...but they still have the GB so i don't worry about for the portable gaming.

No, even if Zelda fails miserably (which it won't) Nintendo will not stop making consoles. If they did, it would suck. Competition=good.

nintendo is moving to Australia?

Blimey!

(BTW, where's the option for "Yes, and I could care less." ;) )

unless nintendo goes bankrupt which i highly doubt, they will always be a contender in the console market.

I don't think they'll go under.

By the way, Kaine: it's NINTENDO

Thanks for the spelling correction DP!

And what if Nintendo lost their 40% market share?
(Reason asking cause someone I know brought all this up today I was talking to about gaming and got me thinking kinda.)

Why on earth would you think that Nintendo would go under if Zelda doesn't do as well as hoped? They're already making a fair profit on the GC and, as always, have numerous other big hitters lined up to support their console.

I'm sorry but it seems like no matter how well Nintendo support their console, there always appears to be people for whom it's just never enough and who predict "ultimate doom" for them after their next release x_x

Personally I like Nintendo.. they keep making me good games.

Nintendo has already announced that GameCube 2 will arrive 2005. So they're definitely not quitting making consoles.

Nintendo has an iron grip on the handheld market. If nothing else it could survive on that alone. So I seriously doubt they will be going down anytime soon ;p

They better not name it GameCube 2!!
Naming a console like that is just plain stupid... :bad-words:

Nintendo will never die, they will outlive us all...

They have $6billion spare in the bank. Don't think it'll happen soon ;)

I was just going to say that!

I also want to point out that, shock, horror, Nintendo is doing very well. The GBA is a pure goldmine, Pokemon is still a hot property, Miyamoto is still a creative genius, only more so, and GC has a solid second-place hold on the global console race (though nowhere near PS2).

Of course Nintendo will stay in the console market; looks like the next one will appear in 2K5, right on schedule.

Nintendo will go under eventually, but not for a long time. All companys will eventually go under due to change. If the Roman empire can go down, companys like Disney and M$ will too.

I don't think they will die, just never get back what they had with the NES and part of the SNES. :/

Nintendo has been around for more than 100 years. If the worst comes to it, Nintendo can always go back to making playing cards. But that probably won't happen as Gameboy is still hugely popular and Pokemon is still going strong with kids.

BTW I think it was 6 billion Yen, not Dollars.

Charlesaway

Hey... they could even make Pokemon playing cards. ;)

No. They announced that they had started developing a new console, but at the same time they announced that they expected the Gamecube to last 8 years. That's unrealistic so you're probably looking about late 2006.

Not a chance. They could do portable only and still be golden.

One bad franchise release ( if it even happens) will not be the downfall of Nintendo. There are too many other successful franchises, and the gameboy. To ask this question leads me to feel you don't truly realize how BIG Nintendo really is.

I have to say that I'm rather skeptical about the planned release year for the next console. After all, Nintendo has talked about Project Dolphin for years before it finally materialized as the GameCube. Unless they intend to do like Sony did and have a backward-compatible home console?

First I like to say that I'm glad to have grown up in the era when Nintendo was in their prime. Of course I still believe they're making some good games now, but It wont ever be as good as the first few years and the games that came out then. But they also wont go out of business either. At least until kids and big kids start getting sick of mario and Zelda; Metroid etc. sequels and prequels. I think Nintendo needs a new hero.

There is no way that Nintendo could ever go under. To big of a fanbase and too much money.
