View Full Version : Couldn't Get Beyond Good & Evil
I've had this game for awhile now, and bought it based on what people on the boards here were saying. Though I finished it a few months ago, I still don't get what people found so special about this game. It has a few good ideas, and somewhat interesting characters (especially the knight), but nothing really stands out in this game for me.
Then again, I played through the Rayman 2 Dreamcast game and didn't get that one either. So perhaps I just see the infatuation with Michel Ancel. LOL

has there be anything that stands out? that's the question, why does everyone always want to have something new, different or better in a game?? i don't get that, i'd prefer a perfectly polished jump&run over one adding 1 or 2 new features that probably don't even work out any day. And that's what Beyond Good & Evil is, it almost takes the Action-Adventure to perfection, never boring, fast paced, good story, fantastic graphics, good battles, nice jump passages, different areas, usable vehicles, nice characters, interesting enemies. I mean, what the hell else do you want? i don't need something like rewind to make a game good ;)

I thoght BGE was an EXCELLENT game. And although I agreee that I don't think a game NEEDS something to stand out, it was the first time I've ever had to take pictures of all the wildlife, take pictures for proof of the badguys wrondoing, had several minigames that controlled fairly well.
And had the best cinematic sequence that was CONTROLLED that I've ever played - Jumping across the rooftops while avoiding explosions and things chasing/attacking you. That was by far one of my favorite gaming moments of the year if not all time. Especially since it had been so long since I'd saved lol.

oh man, totally forgot about that sequence, it was awesome, one of the best gaming experiences of the current gen (along with Le Mans on GT4 with a DFP :D )

I bought this game about 6 months ago for the GC and still haven't played it yet! I have been wanting to lately but haven't found any time to play that along with my other current regualr games.
I stopped playing around what I think is somewhere near the middle- about to enter the slaughterhouses but I cant figure out how to open the door w/ Double H. I dont really care to know either.
But then again, I found ICO to be average at best- I didnt see/feel anything in/about that game that people were going on & on about.
Boy, I cant wait to start playing the first Prince of Persia...& be let down again.

Thank God someone else feels like I do. In reading game reviews, I feel the most over used/cliche phrase in bashing a game is "this game brings nothing new to the genre." Why is that every game has to do something different than the last, and if it doesn't it gets bashed? Sometimes continuity is good, and change can be bad.

Wow you hit the nail right on the head, I couldent have said it better myself. BGE doesnt bring anything radicaly new, it just does everything RIGHT. Also the picture taking aspect is fresh, and very enjoyable.
What draws me in about this game are the likable characters, great environments, great mix of stealth and action, and flawless controls as well as very interesting story, and you have a near perfect game.
The first battle in the game drew me in so deep it was unbelievable.

I bought this and played it when it came out, bored the shit out of me, I played for a couple of hours and never looked back. I don't see why people like it, I know nothing has to stand out to be a good game, but I just don't like it. It was incredibly boring.

I'm with Chris on this. The game is very boring and I felt I had to drag myself through finishing it.

I don't care if some people don't like this awsome game, different strokes, ya' know, but alot of people didn't like the game because the graphics were a little Disneyesqe. My brother for example. They're douchebags. Way too many people are playing games to see boobs. They can suck my scrotum. Suck it much.
