You gotta figure, the NES sold 60 million units in its lifespan, now with the 700+ official games released, how many individual nes carts are floating around out there today? 100 Million? How many of the most common games were pressed? Are there easily a million or more zelda and super mario brothers 3 carts out there somewhere?

I am going to use my better judgement and say.........a megamillion! hehehe.

But who knows, too many sold to just up and disappear ya know.

I'd say about 75% of them have been snatched by fellow DP members LOL This leaves a very small amount left in the "wild"

Here's rumored (but most likely reliable within 10%) sales numbers for the top three NES titles. SMB is unbelievably high because the data included pack-in carts and most likey SMB/DH & SMB/DH/WCTM combo carts.

Super Mario Bros. (40 Million)
Super Mario Bros. 3 (18 Million)
Super Mario Bros. 2 (10 Million)

Its hard to tell if your joking in that post (because of the "LOL") but thats definately not true.
I couldn't even imagine how many there are. Definitely upwards of 100 million.

nintendo has sold a billion games of there software over the years, so i would say that there are prob 400 million nes games in the world

The PSX sold a bit more than 1 billion pieces of software, but had a very high software-hardware ratio. Perhaps 4-500mil NES/Famicom carts?

Considering the recent events in New Orleans due to Katrina, I TOTALLY misread your topic title! I thought it was going to be asking the question literally, which would have been in really poor taste.

Anyway, there are like 40 million SMB/DH carts alone that are potentially floating around in the world, so the total number of NES carts still in circulation (as opposed to buried in a dump) has got to be astronomical.

Awww, I was going to Phoptoshop an image of carts floating in the ocean, but considering Katrina, I didn't...however, my joke would have been ruined regardless of Katrina because you guys thought of the "floating" notion first. 8-)
