Nope, the TG16 was $199, a full $10 more than the Sega Genesis. I bought mine in October, 1989 in Toys R' Us and still have the reciept.

The only system that I have actually bought at close to launch price was the Pokemon N64 that I purchased new from Toys R Us. Everything else was either free (Dreamcast through a program at work) or WAY less than the launch price. (On a side note...it's curious that the Saturn was so expensive compared to both the Genesis and the Dreamcast...)
