I was running some errands today and I decided to drop by the local weekend flea market. Before I got out of my car I realized I was in error...I was wearing my DP t-shirt! I try to avoid wearing DP tees or gaming tees for a number of reasons while out in the field. How about you?

I actually wear all of my shirts inside out. I've been doing it for about 5 years now.
However, I do wear my DP shirt the right way. And when I go hunting, I wear it sometimes. I don't think the vendors know/care about DP all that much.

When I go out hunting, I like to make sure that I don't look like I have a lot of money (which I don't anyway). Maybe that makes it easier to bargain with the vendors. If I walked through the dirt mall wearing designer clothes and shades, those people would be less willing to take less money for items IMHO.

Yeah i try to look like a real cheap ass. Although that might have something to do with me being a real cheap ass outside of gaming.

I ALWAYS wear my colors.
I wear the DP shirt so that fucking merchant dickheads don't try to fuck me over. To this day I appreciate the fact that when they see the DP colors they"re automatically up against the wall.
I wonder how this will change when I BECOME one of these fucking merchant dickheads and am also wearing the DP colors. Life's complicated elegance.

I haven't worn a gaming tee while hunting before. I don't think it would effect anything anyways, because all I do is thrift. Every once in a VERY blue moon I'll try yard sales or the flea, but I always fail. I'm just not very good at it yet. One of these days I'll nail a technique though ;D.

I don't yet own a DP shirt, but I imagine this might not be a good idea, especially if there's any haggling to be done.
Classic Gaming Expo and similar shows are the exception, of course. But if I were Freddy the Flea-Market Vendor in Podunk, I would take one look at the mark in the DP shirt and just know I don't have to drop my price at all. I might even be able to jack it up a few bucks. I don't even have to know what "Digital Press" is. If I see you wearing the word "videogame" on your shirt then I will translate that as "Take all my money, please" and will be happy to oblige.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m all for flying the flag. But discretion may be the better part of frugality in this case.
EDIT: I wrote this before Joe's post. So perhaps I am somewhat wrong in that a DP shirt can at least gurarantee you fair market prices. Maybe I should just shut up, order a shirt and see what happens.

I wear my DP shirt in the hunt sometimes, in a way it lets vendors know I mean business and I know what Im talking about, and a way Im also worried they will see Im into games and jack the prices up on games with no prices just because they figure I will buy it.

there is a benefit though, at non-hardcore flea markets, where just regular customers are filing through. if some vendor is trying to sell you an overpriced game that isn't really known to the public, you can kindly remind him:
vendor: let's see...final final guy. i'll sell you it for 15 dollars.
me: no, the price is 3 dollars.
vendor: get away punk, i have real customers to deal with!
me: yeah, the only games people buy from you that are super nintendo are mario world. you want to feed your kids tonight?
vendor: eh..c'mon man. 8 dollars..
me: oh look..i think someone across the field has actual service. maybe HE wants my money
vendor: -sobs and breaks down- oh please...
me: 5 dollars!
vendor: deal!
me: roffle roffle

I always wear game stuff. Fatal Fury Hat is almost always my trademark. THe guys I buy from usually know who I am anyway, and that doesn't affect prices. In fact, the Fatal Fury hat actually LOWERED some prices for me before, since the guy loved Terry as much as I did. That, and the only time a guy fucked with me was because the Shining Soul he almost sold me for $15 was basically sealed. It was torn open, but not fully.
Asshole wouldn't sell it to me. Argh.

I do and dont. If I'm in a Gamestop/EB type place it really doesnt matter and either they dont know (if its a DP shirt), but if its a regular game shirt and I feel like hearing them comment (I wore a Halo 2 shirt and heard nothing but the employee try to get me to preorder something or other the entire time I was in there because I was a marked gamer). Since I dont thrift or do swapmeets going out with one on doesnt phase me.
Indy shops I will, because their prices are stickered and they may go down some, and if I show what I know, I might get an in road with them, showing that i'm a gamer (and possible loyal customer) only works to my advantage.

I used to make it a point not to wear game shirts because I figured I'd have more luck bargining if they thought I was a noob. Then I tried wearing them for a while and it didn't seem to make any difference. Not like it would matter much around here. Most of the store owners around here can't tell Mario from Madden. One guy asked if my Tenchu shirt was from Inuasha.

no, actually, when on the hunt (well, on fleas at least), i absolutely go in disguise. That means, absolutely NO signs that i'm interested in video games, and the worst clothes i have lying around somewhere LOL if i'd wear what i usually do, they'd not allow me to negotiate prices with them ;)

Come on you're all thinking it so I'll come out and say it. I think he does it because the seem line that press against the skin on the inside of the shirt whereas the outer shirt designed to "look good" has no seem lines protruding.

I'm thinking the opposite. I don't want them to know I'm a collector. I just want to be a regular John Smith at the flea market who might pick up a couple of old cartridges for a buck a piece for the hell of it. I don't want to look like I *know* how much this stuff is worth.
I'm just talking about fleas, thrifts, and yard sales...if I'm going shopping or to a gaming event I'll wear my DP tee (you never know who you'll run into).

Its all about going against the flow. I'm 20 years old now, and my friends always tell me to "grow up, and put my shirt on the right way." I tell them that I'll turn my shirt the right way when the rest of the world wears their shirts inside out.
It also has something to do with an 'anti-logo' type thing. When I tell people that, they always say "why don't you just buy blank shirts." When they ask me that, I tell them that I haven't bought a new shirt in 5 years.

Wait, ok. That makes sense. I do the same thing with my tighty whiteys to provide a little extra sensation to my more sensitive areas

This is pretty much my philosophy too. While I don't own any specific DP apparel, I do have a handful of gaming shirts that I'll only wear to events and not when I go game shopping. Plus I don't want to be like Gutter:
"Gutter, you're wearing the shirt of the band you're going to see....don't be that guy."

I dont wear gaming shirts in hunts either , people see you coming and charge up the prices of what they are selling thinking you some hardcore fool that will pay anything for what they got.
I have tons of gaming shirts (an industry perk for putting up with the stress of launches LOL ), but have kept them all sealed in their polythene bags with the exception of 2 Perfect Dark shirts that have seen better days and a few Capcom shirts. I'll wear them if I'm not doing "serious" hunting because they DO get noticed and sometimes I don't feel like blathering on about video games when I'm trying to focus.
I don't own a DP shirt yet and must correct the situation. :embarrassed:
