I've been looking for one of those big memory cartridges for my Saturn, but the only affordable one I've come across is a Japanese one. Will this work in a US system?

Yep. The JP game save memory cart works with the U.S. Saturn. I use one myself. You're talking about the cart for game saves, right?

The other kind of "memory cart" is the RAM cart. There are a couple of kinds (1 Meg and 4 Meg, IIRC), and they were for use with certain graphically intense games, like some of the 2D Capcom fighting games. I think that those RAM carts are compatible across regions as well, but I don't have any of those.

And then there are third-party carts that combine a number of functions into one cart. The 4-in-1 is one. But the good thing about the official (JP or US) game save carts is that games generally will recognize them and allow you to save directly in-game to the cart. The third-party game save carts often are not recognized by games and so require you to copy the game save from the Saturn's internal memory onto the cart. Which is less convenient, and unworkable if your Saturn's internal memory has gone bad (as it has in one of my three Saturns; battery replacement did not help).

Great answer. Thanks for both the Question and the Answer as I've needed this information and was about to ask. :)

Yep. That clears up pretty much everything. Thanks! :)
