I'm actually very surprised to see Gamestop selling this. It had been my impression that they were moving away from selling anything retro...

Kudos to Messiah though. If this helps them move more units it should keep them going strong. They have lots of great hardware ideas, and I think they are just getting started.

BTW, according to Messiah's website, the launch of the NEX is pushed to October (it was originally supposed to launch this month).

Most of them don't carry any older systems/games, but they do stock the plug-and-play stuff. Maybe they think it's one of those types of "systems".

How is it old news? I see no mention of it being sold at Gamestop in those links you provided.

I said KINDA old news, and the first order is being shipped on September 30th, which is the preorder shipment. I guess good things come to those that wait.

I had high hopes for the NEX after I first heard about it. I was pretty much ready to shell out all of the money after hearing of it's wireless pads and other system functions. What really killed me, was NO actual screenshots of the system. I'm sorry but CG shots/mockups don't do it for me when money is involved. :/

I've been waiting for this console.

I can't wait to get one.

I'm still waiting for some compatibility reports. The FAQ on their site makes me wary about buying one.

I figured its 60 bucks. A new game costs almost that much so I pre-ordered one. I'll post what works on mine when I get it.

having actually played one at CGE, i can say that it works pretty damn well, and if i hadn't had one of the fancy wireless controllers in my hand and could see the system sitting on top of the tv, i could say that i didn't know i was playing anything but a regular old NES. it doesn't seem to have any problems handling unlicensed games either, as we popped a copy of bible adventures in to give a whirl.

DEFINITELY worth it, in my eyes.

I heard about it, but I never really read into it as I had no idea what it was! LOL

But both NES and Famicom slots, with wireless, and wired compatibility! Wow, it's one of those consoles that came out years ago with wireless LOL

I got to play some River City Ransom on the NEX, and for some reason, the first screen/few minutes of play the colors were WAY off into psychedelic land, but after a bit it smoothed out to normal. Don't know if it was the NEX or the game that started out funky, but it fixed itself after. And more importantly, it played just fine.

Now did you guys see the NEX system in EGM?? Its in the back regarding the NES's 20th Anniversary. No details or anything just the rendered shot of the system and a brief article on famiclones.

Same here. The additional info about it having extended graphics modes gives more evidence that it is based on an older NOAC. There were documents floating around about a NOAC with such capabilities. Personally, I care more for accuracy than extended graphics modes.

I want to know if Castlevania III is compatible fully with no glitches. If so, then I will talk purchase.

At CGE, they had really basic games setup, 1942, Super Mario Bros, and they looked great. I am really curious about the other advanced chips though. I will wait until people get theirs and then ask about compatibility.

I preordered @ CGE and just waiting for the system to show up thats the first cart i'm gonna try. That and Kirby they both use the MMC5 chip. I love the Kirby games, pissed if it doesn't work. If you care I'll post here or on the main board.

I am bumping this mainly because I just received one as a gift, without asking. I like it, though. Doing a roll-call, how many people actually own the Generation NEX or intend to buy one?

I would hope this doesn't ignite an argument, since I read all the other threads. However, the majority of the posts date back to before this thing was even released. I'd want to hear from people who actually own this or currently have it hooked up.

Being a gift, I didn't pay the $50-60 asking price. Even so, I'd have at least thought about picking it up. I liked the packaging, enjoyed the mini-rarity guide and thought the instruction manual was well-written.

I had sold off my top-loading NES awhile back, and will never bother with the "toaster" again, so I needed a new unit. My plan was to buy a FC Yobo but this beauty fell into my lap from a colleague as a thank you gift for giving him a couple of very important industry leads that greatly advanced his career.

Aside from not playing Castlevania III, I'm satisfied with the performance, minor sound/graphics issues aside.

I read a thing or two about the wiring damaging the system or carts. That didn't worry me and I'd expect those type of problems would have surfaced by now on a widespread basis if they were a big deal. I use third party AC plugs for some of my systems (Gamecube, N64, Genesis and Jaguar, for example) and I always read claims that those are unsafe, but I haven't had a problem yet.

The only thing on my mind is the connectivity. With the systems having been in circulation for months now, have there been any reports of the machine wearing out?

I guess you can't argue with getting one for free though. I'm really anal about how my NES game experiences are (sound, video, etc.), and I just can't justify buying this system that has various glitches in games. If that wasn't enough, no Dracula's Curse is a red flag for me. Just my $.02.

It's not worth $60 if it dosn't play CV 3..It's still pricey on ebay

I picked up a NEX from someone here at DP. Cant remember who though. I think it works great except for sound. It seems like I have to have my TV volume turned up full blast just to hear the game.

If I had a complaint, I guess it would be that the cart slot is TOO. DAMN. TIGHT. I can pop a cart in with little trouble, but pulling it back out again is like trying to get a tennis ball away from my dog. Eventually, she'll let go, but not until I forcibly yank it out with more force than I'd like.

I played only on the day I got it. The colors were all so wrong, I couldn't believe it...none of my games looked like they should, so I couldn't bear playing any more on the thing. On top of this, I had to crank the volume all the way up on my TV to hear anything.

I was quite happy with mine - the wireless controller's great. Other than CV3 I don't think anything else didn't play... good deal for what you get, I think.

I didn't have any volume issues, not sure where that came from. I did notice the sound was a little weird, but no worse than some emus have been in the past.

A good second NES for the bedroom.

I guess that game didn't matter to me, since I was more of a Simon's Quest guy, myself. I liked the style of play much better than the other two NES Castlevania games.

Funny you say that because my favorite Castlevania is Simon's Quest also. But, there's just something about the opening to Castlevania III I love. The music, the scrolling intro, the crackling thunder; good stuff. Oh yeah, and the game isn't too shabby either. LOL The whole NES series is definately in my top tier NES games.

I bought a NEX at Midwest Gaming Classic this year, and was able to talk to the Messiah guys (and girl.) They were really upfront about the system and its capabilities and drawbacks, although they did act a little wormy when compatibility issues were addressed by myself. Nevertheless, I bought a unit and have enjoyed it for the most part. I like the pseudo-stereo effect a great deal, and it comes in quite handy for games like 1943, which seems to benefit most from it, in my opinion...

I 2nd that experience at MWGC - I did an interview with them and they discussed the drawbacks candidly, even knowing they were being taped.
