Anyone else wondering if that even is Solid Snake? I mean the media package of character drawings showed an old guy with an eye patch in addition to Solid snake. I didn't think that MGS4 was supposed to be set too far after MGS2 so that Snake looks too old.

Since strange shit happens in Metal Gear to me it seems quite possible that we are looking at a revived Big Boss. THe patch is even over the right eye.

Maybe i'm insane, but so is Kojima-san.

Someone wanna translate the article for us?

Oh and those graphics aren't that impressive. Don't get me wrong they look really good, but they just don't look anybetter then F.E.A.R. to me.

When you get shot in the eye while being held captive, you tend to need an eyepatch afterwards.

From the images, Otacon doesn't look too old... I wonder why snake is? Maybe it isn't snake...

Yeah but that Was Naked Snake A.K.A. Big Boss, not his clone Solid.

Between the eye patch, Metal Gear and Otacons age i'm feeling more confident that it is in fact Big Boss not Solid Snake. After all clones look exactly like their father. Unless Solid has an aging defect, i don't think it's him.

What's wrong with Otacon? I mean aside from the whole sleeping with his step mother and causing his father to commit suicide and nearly kill his step sister?

Right, did it say this game was based on solid snake? I assumed it was a "big boss" mission where you played as the original snake. A sequal to MGS 3 if you will.

I didn't mean to sound contradictory. I just ment that Naked Snake was the one who got shot not Solid so it's more support for that being a revived Big Boss as i had stated earlier not Solid Snake which is the common opinion.

Sorry for the confusion.

Although we do know that the game does infact start Solid Snake and is a follow up to MGS2 not 3. But given Kojima you're right there could be a Big Boss Mission.

That is not Big Boss in those pics. Big Boss lost his other eye. If it's not an older Solid Snake with some techno-eye-gadget thingy, it's probably Solidus. He was the one who lost his left eye.

Me likey those pics a lot, but me hope they don't make it take place too long of a time after MGS2.

Solid ages rapidly because the cloning methods used weren't perfect. He was already supposed to be looking pretty old in MGS2.

Is it just me or do the character models look like really nice action figures? As well, Otacon just looks plain creepy... :eek 2:

"Our raw materials are vintage, brother!"

Never trust any MGS previews. Kojima doesn't want to give away anything, but you've gotta promote something, so, according to an interview a while back, he's deliberately misleading. (Which is good, cause I for one despise knowing too much about a game I'm really looking forward to.) Try watching the MGS3 trailer. Once you know what's really going on, it's just sort of nonsensical. I accidently stumbled on some really early MGS2 stuff, including a screen that says "SNAKE IS BACK."

This guy is a bastard.

I love him so.

Those pics look very pretty. That's gotta be solidus snake. Guess he somehow didn't die after his little sword fight death. Considering it's supposed to be directly related to mgs2 I'd say it's him.

With that look he's got, somewhere, gay guys everywhere are saying, "Well, they don't call him Solid Snake for nothing!" ;)

Oh, and maybe that's not a patch, but a single-eye imaging/radar/swissarmyknife techno thing.

I just noticed that, it's even called "Metal Gear MkII" in the article. (ahh, the little Japanese I can read) Also on the first scan, with the possible Solidus, he's holding a gun that requires two hands in his right hand and a survival knife in his left - that's not freaking proper CQC!

...anyone think it could be a fourth surviving clone of Big Boss (of the eight, if I remember correctly) or a clone of Solidus?

Wow.. uh.. hmm... It looks like it'd be an entertaining game (we all knew that and I know this is the earliest of early previews but it still looks like a game world I'd like to see more of NOW) but I really hope Mr. Kojima isn't deciding on cashing in to the standard stereotypical post-apocolyptic future setting. (let's not try to melt Snatcher into Metal Gear the way Metal Gear was melted into the past of Snatcher as an inside joke - don't get me wrong that was fine, but not here)

Otacon as a sidekick via a Metal Gear Mk.II is a cool idea, the little crack about Metal Gear Mk.II being powered by a Cell processor was the usual Kojima touch. Also the little spinning deal in the lower right of Metal Gear Mk.II's display is the same icon used as the "more..." cursor in Snatcher, again that's cool - but let's keep MGS surreal and not cyberpunk.

The posters nailed it, the eyepatch is a tactical information device and that DOES seem to be Solid Snake, just .. well, old. Please, please, please PLEASE don't kill him off in this game. Still does raise the big question about the Solid Snake in the MGS4 press releases from E3 looking as Snake did at the end of MGS2, not ravaged by battle as the "Snake" in this TGS trailer, and there still is that other character with the eyepatch... Let's not forget the "Solid Snake did die, either that or there are two of them" crap from the MGS2 early trailers. Then again Soldius could still use "Snake" now couldn't he?

DAMNIT KOJIMA, WHY MUST YOU DO THIS TO ME?! LOL

Unless it was a bb gun... No actually. You tend to die.
