As far as quality gaming is concerned, the Metroid series all the way.

Halo has what on line multi player? Thats the only advantage it has IMO.

Metroid is an awsome adventure game in disguise as a FPS.

Halo is a FPS and IMO a boring one at that. If its a quality FPS you want wait for half life 2 or is you havent played the first one go play that now.

I sadly cannot play either without experiencing strong urges to vomit, pass out, and crack my skull in half. And no, that's not my opinion on the games, I just can't play these two FPS games.

The two aren't really comprable. As a rule of thumb, I would say if you want a single player game, Metroid for sure. But if you have any inclination toward multiplayer (on or offline) Halo is the way to go. I found them all to be excellent games. BTW, I can see this topic turning into a 5 page, flaming, kitten slinging, veggie loving lockdown.

Metroid is a poor mans fps, and Halo has weak multiplayer, BUT i enjoyed the single player so Halo gets my vote.

Metroid 3 for the win!

I like Metroid's approach to a FPS on the consoles. For keyboard/mouse-ers like me you just can't play a frantic FPS with a controller. I can't aim properly with the analog sticks... even after hundreds of hours (I'm sure) of playing 4-player Golden-Eye I just can't get in that zone I can acheive with the good ol' key/mouse. Metroid solved this problem for me with L-Targeting (we love you Ocarina!).

Plus, it just made more sense to me that your weapons/upgrades would be hidden away from you vs spread out all over the effin place. The morph-ball puzzles/areas were awesome. When they anounced a 3-D Metroid all those years ago that was my main stressing point. They suprised me so pleasantly. So that's a nod to Metroid if you haven't figured that out by now. :)

I love the Metroid series. But I don't like Metroid in FPS style 3D. Bring back 2D console Metroids!

Halo gets my vote.

i like halo better -- it was the music that helped me decide

originaly i was pissed they made metroid into a FPS but i lived with it and enjoyed it but Halo wins this battle this time.

Hear! hear! FPS as a genre should be banned by the UN. Or fans have their voting rights revoked upon purchase of any FPS title.

i used to have the same feelings up untill last year -- then i went FPS crasy and purchased many of them -- now they all sit collecting dust and the only 2 that got any play was halo and metroid

the only FPS i used to consider were Doom and Wolfeinstien untill duke nukem came along - after a hiatus Halo (last year) and metroid - now im back to plain old 8-16 bit games

I'm no good at FPS games and don't really care for them, but my brother will disown me if I don't at least make it through Metroid Prime. When he isn't paying attention/or at home, I'll use the Pro Action Replay and put the "infinite jumps" code in and stay in morh ball form (since you can see your surroundings better) to get pass the parts I'd never pass normally (jumping from ledge to ledge... BAH!).

I've only played the first one of each, but both games are awesome!

Cheers,

Metroid vs. Halo? Are you serious?

An Action/Adventure with FPS elements vs. a full-tilt FPS with online/multiplayer? Yikes. They're two entirely different games, even factoring in the 4 player multiplayer of Metroid Prime 2.

Personally, I love the Metroid games, even though the 2D sidescrollers rate slightly higher for me than the 3D reincarnations. Halo had a better/more interactive story than your usual FPS but it doesn't change the fact (for me) that many of the environments were boring, and so many areas looked the same that it became a chore to complete. Somewhat like Doom 3 - really fun at first, but near the end I'm thinking "When will my suffering end?".

However, I couldn't possibly compare the two - they're totally different. I can't exactly bring out Metroid when I want to have a massive multiplayer battle with friends, and I can't exactly share the Metroid single player experience with friends. I like them both for different reasons, and I'm sure just about everyone else would feel the same way.

Yea, too hard to compare.

For single player its Metroid all the way.

For multiplayer the choice is Halo PC edition. I play it once a week atleast with my pals.

But its totally different worlds. I normally always prefer a multiplayer game over a single player game personally. People with no friends prefer single player games LOL

I second that.

I say Metroid isn't an FPS. It's an FPM (First Person Metroid). :D

I mean the 'shooting' part is auto lock-on. The game is more about exploring than anything.. not shooting. And of course gradually powering up Samus to the point she has all sorts of abiliities, unlike in regular FPS's where your guy starts off maxed out and just finds new weapons.

Think of a 2D Metroid game.. put it in 3D and that's it.

It is apples and oranges, however, I'd have to say Halo for the multiplayer, plus this should've been a poll.

I vote Walo 6 on the xbox 720 LOL

The Metriod Primes bore me. I must have some sort of underlying love for it in 2D because I've played through all those.

I've personally fallen in love with the way Metroid's conversion to 3D is. I like the way it's an FPS, but there are a few other aspects that make it stand out (i.e. morph ball for one). Gotta be Prime for me.

Metroid Prime had me hooked, I played that thing obsessively til I got to the end. Same for both Halo games.

Prime 2 hasn't hooked me, though. It's good, for sure, but thus far it's missing this certain zing that made the first one so awesome.

Halo's multiplayer mode makes it THE go-to game on consoles, though, so I have to consider that.

They're two very different games, but just going on which ones hooked me better, it was the Halos.

Honestly, I dislike FPSes on consoles because I can't get the twitch and accuracy that I can achieve with the kb/mouse combo. I haven't played the sequels to Halo or Metroid yet (I just haven't gotten that far) But for Halo1, the single player was great, I was still wishing for my traditional PC controlls the whole way, but I got into it and found it enjoyable. Metroid I found the controlls to be harder. I viewed it more as a System Shock like game, but again, the controller gave me fits.
I have played Halo1 on PC and I have one word for it: _Boring._
The action just wasn't there, the group I was playing with are all competent players so it wasn't them. It just felt that in such a small arena (played CTF of course) I wasn't running. I 'sauntered' up to my opponents and shot them in the face. After two rounds of that, we had Unreal Tournament loaded up again and the pace felt like night and day. I would run. You felt like you were running. I would shoot things and they would die -- instead of just be annoyed that their shield crapped out.
I'm told that playing on live is mondo fun (I don't desire live honestly), but after my sampling of halo1 I'm glad I didn't waste the cash on it. :|

My thoughts. Carry on citizens. . .

Hex.
