Got "Do Don Pachi Daioujou DV", "Espgaluda" and "Mushihimesama" from Play-Asia this week. Due to the momentary absence of a Multinorm-PS2 I'm not able to playtest them for some time. I ordered these games merely hearing some rumors that they are good shmups. Can you confirm? 8-)

Good of you do ask and actually do some research after buying them. Also, making decisions just because "other people said they were" good wasn't very wise as well..

Good of you do ask and actually do in english please?

Also, making decisions just because "other people said they were" good wasn't very wise as well.. another mistake. i also would have bought them when people said they are unbelievably bad because the PS2 lacks big on 2D shmups.

anyway, you don't even seem to know these games so the only thing you left was spam and therefore why don't you simply get lost and choose some other thread to raise your post counter.

I kinda like Espagaluda. But I'm no zomg hardcore shooter fan either. I like em, but I don't get all crazy about which ones suck and which ones don't.

I loved Dodonpachi Daioujou...it was the reason i rebought a japanese ps2. Fantastic game, hard as balls, and packed with extras. Really fun game to learn; beautiful upgrade/sequel to Dodonpachi.

ESPGaluda is a lot of fun too. No where near as hard as Dodonpachi Daioujou (the game is pretty easy overall unless the last boss), but I'd say the soundtrack is the best Cave soundtrack yet. Some creative gameplay systems at work, and as with Dodonpachi Daioujou, it's loaded with extras.

Mushihimesama caught a lot of shit for being a bad port, but I liked it a good bit. It's not up to snuff with the other two ports, but not a whole lot of games are, honestly. There's some annoying bugs that there's really no excuse for (such as the music restarting everytime you pause), but there's a nice set of game styles to choose from to adjust to your ability level. It's fun to throw it on Arrange, turn your brain off, and blow shit up.

Three great games, imo.

Gigawing Generations also caught shit for being a crappy port, but it's another game I loved. Not as nice as Gigawing 2, but it's damned good.

Avoid XII Stag at all costs. You have been warned :(

Can't wait to get Raiden III. Heard it had less slowdown than the arcade version, which is always nice.

DOJ and ESPGaluda are perhaps the two best shooter packages on the PS2. True low-res like the arcade ports, and extra modes (Death Label and Arrange, respectively). One of the higher ups at Arika, Mihara, is a big Cave geek, and the work they did on those two ports shows.

Mushihime-sama is a much inferior port. Scaled sprites in high res mode tends to hurt the eyes after a while. The arrange mode is just like a watered down maniac mode, unfortunately. Still not a bad game though.
