This thread isn't directly on point, but here ya go:

I'm in the same boat with those guys. I've heard that the Saturn version is better, but I own the U.S. PlayStation version. I believe that the major difference was in the costs for weapon upgrades. Apparently the U.S. PlayStation version jacked the costs way up, forcing you to "cash bash" a lot more enemies if you want the upgrades. Some have found that tedious after playing the Saturn version. Of course, if you only play the U.S. PlayStation version, you might never notice.

And in another thread discussing Silhouette Mirage (U.S. PS),

While Silhouette has some good ideas and a great sense of humor, playing it is far more frustrating than it should be. It's the rare case in which Working Designs actually made a game worse than its Japanese original.

Thanks for the info.

I guess my next question is do I need to
speak Japaneze to play the saturn version?

Also note that in the US version there's a hidden store in the second level (I think) that sells one of the strongest weapons really cheap. Of course, this throws the difficulty balance off in the opposite direction...

The aforementioned cash bash does make the PlayStation version a bit tedious, the Saturn version has a better flow so to speak. There's also the english voice acting which isn't to everybody's taste.

But then again there's the english text (duh) which will help you understand the moves and the story better. And the PlayStation version is $5 opposed to $40? for the Saturn one.

I've played through both versions and you don't really need to understand japanese to finish it but I certainly got more out of the game after knowing what the hell was going on. I say try the PS version and see if you like it enough to buy the other one as well. ;)

As much as this game is bashed I found it to be a pretty fun game. I'm a huge fan of the art design and most of the bosses in it.

I have a question:

Is the Import PSX one exactly the same as the Import Saturn version?

No, there's still numerous graphical differences between the two. They don't really impede the gameplay or anything, but they are noticable if you've played the Saturn version before.

Edit, woops, hit post too soon. here's a detailed comparison of the two, in addition to the import vs domestic version (http://www.classicgaming.com/sfkosmo/treasure/games/silhouettemirage/comparison.html)

Thanks for the link. I own the import PSX one, and owned the U.S. version a couple of years ago. Looks like I'll need to pick up the Saturn version one of these days.
