Has anyone heard anything about the cartridge that ended at $6100? I wonder if the money actually changed hands.

been wondering the same thing

It's relisted.

I hope the seller took our advice this time -- well, mine :P -- and has a reserve and a notice that anyone under a certain feedback must be aproved to bid.

I have been in contact with him since the very beginning of the first auction...I believe he did take your advice, SB. He was very excited in the beginning of the first auction, until I pointed out the 0 feedback bidder and the trouble they tend to produce. He never had a bad experience with an auction, so he was a bit surprised when I explained to him that people would actually mess with someone's auction like that. Poor guy. He took it as lessons learned. I hope he does get that $6100 again!

Me too! So I can convince myself that the $4200 I spent was justified :)

BTW, had I known about these forums I definitely would have been open for discussion before I outlaid that kind of cash. There just isn't a lot of info on the web about these carts, which is surprising given its "Holy grail" claim to fame. I also used the number of bids that exceeded $5000 on the other as a basis for value, which may or may not have been legit, and the rarity of seeing these auctioned. I do expect to see more of these go in the near future if this price plateau is maintained, as I'm sure that's a tempting amount for most collectors.

My hat's off for Rob, who's doing the right thing in categorizing and historically documenting these cartridges.

Thanks, Doc!

A little blurb I found on Kevin Horton's site concerning why they don't work in toploader NESs:

http://tripoint.org/kevtris/mappers/nes_custom/NES_EVENT.html

One interesting thing to note, is that the lockout chip's reset line is used on here to initialize some of the hardware... This means the cart WILL NOT WORK on toploading NES units. (or, if it does work it will act very flaky).

So there you have it. :)

it looks as if the other one has been relisted.

@Ben: I would be really interested in seeing the pics as well.

@Leonk: If you would consider undertaking the task of reproducing a few NWC carts in the next year or two, that would kick ass. I know that I would buy several from you, as it would be just the thing to do (have a NWC contest/competition) up at the college that I am at. My college seems to be big into retro gaming, last year's Spring Fest was themed "Super Mario Bros. 3" Giant World, so I think I could get some kick ass stuff going on if I had a few repro NWC carts down here.

I would also definitely be interested in said repros, and even moreso if you could use gold cases.

Me I want a silver case. Then sell it as the Shigeri Yayamamatoto Special Version.

1 of 1.

Then I am gonna get it graded by Digitpress Grading System (DGS) and hope for a GEM MINT 9.5+.

I am gonna be rich with my special 1 of 1 edition. Hourra!

Well, if you do make these repros (I can't stop you and I'd rather you didn't) can you hold off until I finish my documentation of the carts? I really wouldn't want these to flood the market and have someone else get the idea it's it's easy and doable and start screwing up the tracking I've been doing, heh heh. It should only take a year or two to find all 116 original cart owners (finalists and NP winners). Hopefully in that time I will find some bigwigs with some answers too. In fact, I think I got a lead on one yesterday.

There is already fake gold outta there :D

And if leonk do it, I suppose it will be "noble" to differentiate the repro from the original.

Even if a perfect repro in that case is appealing.

Are you refering to fake gold in the auction? Just want to be clear...wasn't sure if you were joking.

Well, I was referring to that auction with a possibly fake gold. Unless it was a prototype, etc. Anyway it was terminated fast. So who know.

Man I wish I had been reading all this weeks ago - drcurtis actually clued me into these forums (he was the guy that bought the $4300 NWC cart, I was the guy that sold it)

Interesting read for history's sake, however!
