How come there's no option for "none"?

09-16-2005, 02:47 PM
USUALLY I'll say "all 3". But this time around I'm just not all that intrigued by the ps3 for some reason.

Nintendo intrigues me. I'll pick up one of those.

The Dell 360 will probably have a lot of games. I'll pick up one of those as well.

The PS3.. ehhh.. I dunno. We'll see.

I wasn't really into any of them until I saw that Nintendo controller. Sign me up for the Revolution - it looks neat, and as an American consumer, I am sold.

Well, considering we still haven't seen any real games for the Rev, we don't exactly know "the deal" for it.

SHOW ME THE GAMES ALREADY!!!

Also, as has been noted, there's no option for None of the above.

After reading a few pages of the Revolutions control scheme thread, I'm amazed at the responses. I surely though the hardcore oldschool crowd would have gone for this more than the casual gamer crowd :

Futuremarks discussion on the Revolution (Largely PC gaming hardcore overclocking community). (http://discuss.futuremark.com/forum/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=gamingconsole&Number=5536508&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&fpart=1)

There are some nintendo Fanboy's there, but they keep it in check for the most part.

I honesly have a boner at the thought of playing Pilotwings with that controller as has been described by IGN and Gamespot.

I also have a boner for Oblivion (which would KICK ASS with the rev. controller), so I'm probably going to get a 360 for that and Gears of War at the least. There will obviously be Halo 3 sometime in the future, so I'm certainly going to need a 360.

And, I'm a huge RPG dork, so I need a PS3. I don't think I need to say much more about that.

It'll be expensive, but the next gen is going to offer a crazy huge array of gaming options, and I'm going to love it.

I was about ready to snooze through this next generation but I keep holding out hope that the Rev will be something new and great. That's where I still stand as the big N turns one peice of the puzzle over at a time. I must say I'm pretty hyped about the possibilities of this new controller but I won't be totally sold until I see some games being played with it.

Eventually I'll probably pick up the Xbox or the PS3 for a second more standard console. I'll wait untill both have been out for awhile before deciding on that one though.

I fully agree. I think that is one of the worst controllers in the history of video games. You need to have dual analog in this day and age, and holding the remote like you have to doesn't give you easy access to all four buttons. There are less buttons on this controller than on the snes controller. That's not good. I think it's a step backwards for Nintendo.

Until I see games and price drops, none of the above.

And unless I see a way that the Revolution controller works where I can relax and play games (instead of moving around with the controller), I don't think I'll be getting that. It's just not how I like to play games.

360 at Launch because of PGR3 and DOA4.

The PS3 i'll pickup when i decide i have to have MGS4 (Which pretty much means the day MGS4 comes out.

With the Rev the controller is unique enough that i'd like to have it for my collection, but unless it's cheap and plays well (like goatdan i don't just want to fail my arm around), i won't be buying at launch.

But i'm still ranking my desire as 360 then rev then ps3. To be honest i think the batarang is no better a controller then the Rev and it doesn't have that unique feel to it. Unless the Batarang changes (which according to Sony is still possible so here's hoping) the PS3 has nothing of interest for me except MGS4.

Rev for sure now, long as there's some decent games, if not, well, novelty factor will get me to buy one after price drops at least.

360 should be good, I LIKE microsoft in the ring, they took what little knowledge they had from helping with the DC and made the xbox, and for a first attempt it turned out nice. Hopefully they'll pull it out real well this time around and have a solid system.

PS3 has yet to show me anything but a boomerang and movie-in in screenshots. I remember looking at some site's preorder stuff, and they had nothing but screens for..some movies, one was king kong (oh hey, a remake, yay) and those had dinosaurs in it. What the fuck. Unless they can do something cool I don't really care. If it's anything like the ps2 it'll EVENTUALLY get enough niche titles and decent localizations to warrant buying a used one or something.

However, I'm probably not buying any of them at launch, unless it's near a holiday and I can talk a relative into buying it or something.

"None of the above" for me too, until I can get each for $20 and/or there's a must-have game I gotta play (which is basically a tri-Ace game, anything else can wait).

Or my boyfriend may just get hyped up and buy one himself, like our GameCube, in which case then I'll too have it.

09-16-2005, 05:05 PM
Possibly the Revolution... I'm hardly interested in the 360 or the PS3 at any price, and at the price they're saying, NO WAY. If the Revolution is somewhat cheap, and the controller actually ends up working like it should, and not like some wonky peripheral that we've seen WAY too many times in the past, I may go for the Revolution.

If the controller works like it should, I'll buy the Revolution. When I saw it at first I thought it was a terrible idea, then I realized it was possibly the best idea ever! Console games generaly arent as good as computer because they lack a mouse (and a few other reason), but now there's something better than a mouse. I think in a few years if all computers and game consoles used this technology we'd be better off.

My desire to pick up a Revolution plumeted and then rose sky-high within 3 or 4 hours today. With the release of that picture of the Revolution controller (or VCR controller), I had pretty much made up my mind that I wasn't going to buy one. Then, leave it to Nintendo to blow me away with some sort of video that I don't even have a full idea of whats going on... but gets me excited.

I give Nintendo credit just for thinking outside of the box. Until I read this article, much like everyone else, I figured their next gen system would have a controller similar to ones past.

Even bombs like the Virtual Boy show Nintendo looks for innovation in concept. Who would have thought bongo drums would be so much fun or you could store classic videogames on trading cards?

Let's face it, if Nintendo can deliver this unit as a fair price (unlike the current offering of the Xbox 360 with all these manditory game purchases at $700 and the hint that the PS3 is "going to be expensive") we might see our Nintendo friends back on top!

I'll throw in a qualified vote for the Revolution here. I'm going to have to see some games first, but like I've said, give me a good Star Wars 'Jedi' game on the Revolution where that little remote control-like gadget can be my light saber, and I will be in line at midnight on the release day.

Which will, I think, be the first time that's ever happened. I forget if I got the Voice of Odyssey on release day or not.

All the new systems look nice, but, I say gamecube. I know, its not a new system to most the rest of the world, but as i dont own one yet, thats my pick. The revolution just looks odd. The PS3 looks like more of the same crap from sony, and the 360 has abandoned everything I loved about the original. Now that I have all the curent systems minus the 2 new handhelds, its time I pick up a gamecube and all 5-8 games that interest me, and be happy with those.

I am going to TRY and skip any launches for the three, but will most likely have a 360 before Christmas LOL . The fact that I recently purchased my PSP MIGHT make it easier, since I'm in love with the thing.

I prefer the Xbox from this gen and so would naturally gravitate towards a 360. Sony and Nintendo aren't calling to me this round and I absolutely do NOT under ANY circumstances want all three. I "wasted" FAR too much money last round, owned two of each console, and ended up with just one Xbox after the dust had settled.

This really is going to be a tough one to call...

The only reason that I have ever played an Xbox [other than multiplayer Halo at a friend's house] is for Shenmue II - So if Shenmue III is exclsuive to Xbox 360 - then I'll have to experience that.

I'm also a Metal Gear Solid junky - and that game looks really interesting - not enough to make me buy the system - but if Silent Hill is a PS3 exclusive, then I will be sold on the PS3.

The Revolution just looks awesome with that controller. Given that some good and solid games are made for that piece of wonderful technology that they're playing with. Of course, we have not seen any games - but it looks mighty promising.

I don't think that I'll be getting any of them at lauch though.

I voted Revolution.

Normally, I'd pass on any playstation. But the PS3 actually has me intrigued. But I'm waiting to see some games. But as a HDTV owner, the blu-ray drive will be nice :D

The Revolution could be the first system I ever buy at launch, as long as there's something decent & original to play on it. The PS3 and 360 don't interest me in the slightest although in the long run I might have to buy one if I'm going to keep up with the Winning Eleven series.

It saddens me to think that you are completely eliminating an option for a reason that is likely based on something that has absolutely nothing to do with gaming.

When Dead Rising comes out, I wish I could have you over to my house and see it, and then see if you still refuse to buy any "x-box any thing".

You can hate any company that you want, but not buying what could be one of the most compelling pieces of hardware in History over a personal grudge is very silly. I very much disslike Sony, and I really hope they get it handed to them in this upcoming generation, but guess what.....

Now that we know the deal, what next-gen systems will you buy?

I can't answer this Q because I do NOT know the deal.

I know the hardware specs, some features, and the price for the 360 - I read it in mags.

I know that the PS3 is able to produce an incredible amount of rubber duckies in a bathtub and little sailing ships - I saw it on TV.

I know that the Revolution will be very small, and I watched people jumping up with excitement on a couch making movements with the remote-shaped controller - I saw a trailer on the Internet.

All of the above isn't worth a thought so far when and which system I will buy first or last.

I'll buy all three of them anyway and hope for great and better games.

Anthony1
09-21-2005, 01:44 AM
After about a year of "going retro", I swore to myself that I bought my last system on a launch day. I thought I would ignore all of the new systems until their price dropped and they had a super killer app.

But I've changed my mind.

Now, I'm buying all three on launch day. Actually at midnight the night before. Of course this is a very expensive proposition. I never imagined that I would be spending $430 on a XBOX 360, and I wouldn't be going home with any games (initially, I'm just going to rent games)

The good news is that it appears that all 3 launches will be seperated a bit from each other. I fully expect the PS3 to be launched in the U.S. on Tuesday August 15th, 2006. Anybody that actually thinks a Spring Launch in the U.S. is possible is being incredibly naive. There is a good seperation from November 22nd 2005 till August 15th, 2006. It will give me plenty of time to save the necessary $499.99 plus tax that the PS3 will cost in the U.S. As for the Revolution, it will launch on December 12th, 2006 in the U.S. for $199.99. This is pretty close to the PS3 launch, but with the $199.99 price, I think I'll be able to barely swing it.

So yes, I'm buying all three, but I will have to say that I won't be buying many games, if any at all. I'm going to go with a stragety of having a number of rental plans and just renting games.

I bought only one system on launch day, the N64. Otherwise I wait around 4 months after launch with a purchase until the first childhood sicknesses of the hardware is corrected.

As for the Revolution, it will launch on December 12th, 2006 in the U.S. for $199.99. This is pretty close to the PS3 launch, but with the $199.99 price,

With Nintendo charging $99 for the GameBoy Micro, I just don't see the Revolution launching at $199. :hmm:
And for that matter, I don't see the PS3 launching at $499. Sony would rather take a loss and sell at $399 or less in order to get Blu-Ray technology into homes. The potential (or inevitable) success of Blu-Ray discs will more than make up for whatever loss they take on hardware.

299 for the revolution and 399 for the ps3 is my guess

Anthony1
09-21-2005, 12:40 PM
The actual prices of the systems aren't that significant of a deal, we know that the PS3 will be at the very least $399.99, probably a bit more, and we know that the Revolution will be $249 or less.

The more interesting thing is the release dates.

When it comes to the PS3, I never once actually took Sony for their word when they talked about Spring 2006. Anybody with half a brain knows that this is just a tactic they are using to try to convince some potential 360 owners to wait for the PS3. And since some people are actually buying into the Spring 2006 launch hype, their tactic will probably work for them to a slight degree.

If it was a known fact that the PS3 was releasing in mid to late August 2006 in the U.S., then I think alot of people that are unsure about whether to get a 360 or not, those people would probably get a 360, because August 2006 is a long, long time away. Sony is very well aware of that. They know that by mentioning Spring 2006, they will actually get a few retards to avoid the 360, and then in late February, they will break the news that it will Launch in Japan in June 2006 (technically I guess they could say it's the end of spring) and it will launch in the U.S. in August.

Of course the dweebs that waited for the spring release, will likely just continue their wait, so the strategy is one that will work to a slight degree for Sony.

The reason that it will launch in August is very simple. The annual version of Madden is usually available around the 20th of August. You would have to expect that the "second" version of Madden for the XBOX 360, will release around the 20th or so of August 2006. Sony would like to have the Madden for the PS3 be available on the same date, which means that the PS3 must also be available for sale. Tuesday the 15th of August is a day that makes sense, to have the PS3 launched, and then around the 20th when Madden comes out, it will come out on the same day for the 360 and the PS3, (as well as XBOX and PS2).

There isn't any chance of a Spring Launch in the U.S. for the PS3, but a mid August launch is definitely do-able. The system would be shown off at e3, and developers would have until late July to finish up their launch games for the mid August launch.

As for Nintendo, the Revolution is on target for a early 2007 launch, but I'm guessing they will try to squeeze it out just before Xmas 2006. The last available date that makes sense to try to get some good sales prior to Xmas is Tuesday, December 12th. I'm guessing that when it launches, there will only be about 5 or 6 games available for the first 45 days or so, and then more titles will trickle out in early 2007.

Now, you must be asking how I know all of this? I called Sylvia Brown and she told me.

I'm leaning towards the Revolution, thats if I buy a next generation console at all. I mean hey, I just got my hands on a PS2, I've got to play with that a bit first! :-P

The jury is still out on the Revolution controller of course, until we see it with some games. At first sight I thought WTF are they thinking? But that video really has me interested in the possibilities. It could be a huge win for Nintendo or it could be a bust, only time will tell. The controller will make or break that system for sure.

I was planning on buying the PS3 then later on picking up the Revolution, but the controller announcement for the Revo has me 99% certain that I'll buy it on launch day and wait on the PS3 until the first price drop. The DS has really energized me into gaming again, and the Revolution will continue that for me.

Welp, I voted for Rev/360. I, of course, will be at the store waiting at midnight for the Revolution.

I really will be wanting a 360 as well, but will wait til at least it's first price cut. It just plain and simple, the sytem will cost too much for me. Oh well, I can wait. As for the Revolution, I CAN'T!
