Incase you didn't notice, new Evil Dead game is out. Pretty decent, and only 20 bucks as well.

Anyone else playing this? I think I'm at the final boss and he's kicking my ass since I can't figure out the method (I assume I'm supposed to attack the book somehow) and dont' get much time to experiment since my save ended up being AT the boss with less than great health. Oops.

If you liked the last game, this one is fairly similar, only no ammo worries (which is helpful), and you get a sidekick. The "collect spirits" mini-escort missions aren't the greatest thing ever but at least they end with you getting to kill the guy you were protecting.

Hell yes and thank good we finally don't have to manage ammo. My biggest problem with the ED games in the past, aside from the controls, is that you had to manage ammo and even gas. That's not how evil dead is, i mean we see Bruce reload like three times in the whole trilogy.

I've only had Sam for a little while but the little bastard really grows on you. And then you kick him through a fan for fun. Certainly the best ED game to date and Bruce and Ted's voice acting are spot on as usual which is just plain cool.

The fact that lock on now locks the camera rather then just your aim makes moving around much smoother and easier. A much needed imporovment.

All in all i'd say the game is good, not "Groovy".

I'm torn on the ammo managment, since it's still basically a zombie simulation to a degree, and even Ash had to use what he had on hand in the movies...so in some ways it adds to the overall effect, but it also creates situations where you save and end up not having enough gear to clear the area, I had that problem once in the last game. It's also like you said, probably more in-tune with the series as well since he's got dramatic ammo rules most the time anyway (and gas has NEVER been a problem, even in the middle ages).

I am however slightly dissapointed that the setting from the end of the last game wasn't used as the first stage. Oh well. And for that matter, if he's been institutionalized, how much of the movies/games is supposed to be in continuity here? They should have used the feudal Japan thing at first, then have him come home and sound crazy when he's explaining to a cop why he's carrying around chainsaws and katanas, and get labelled as mad that way. Maybe I'm crazy here.

Sam is definetly pretty good, he had high potential for uber-annoyance, I mean, he's the "witty sidekick" and you have to do escort missions with him...but since it's Ted, and he does a good job of it, it's not too bad at all really. You gotta wonder if naming a character you can kill at will "Sam" is a joke between Ted and Bruce.

Payback for all of Sam's abusive love i trust. LOL

It wasn't so much terrible as it was just completely wrong on everylevel. Evil Dead was only a true horror for the first movie so the survival horror concept really seemed out of place to me.

I loved Fistful of Broomsticks...and I can't wait to get a hold of this.

Yet my only problem with ED Fistful of Broomsticks, some of the levels were so friggin short...yet sometimes I would get lost easily. The bosses were a joke, especially the last...

I've played through half the first game on PSX, and all of it on Dreamcast. Rented the psx version, got all the way to the cabin basement, and suddenly "insert disc 2". What the hell? They only game me one disc! Boy did that suck. Later on i played through the DC version, all the way to the final boss. Couldn't seem to beat it so i put it down. Months later i decide to fire it up and kill it on the first try. LOL

I actually like the first one though, it's probably the most geniunely creepy one of the three if that's what you're looking for. The parts that take place in the past are fun, especially the overcomplicated puzzle, that is hilarious. The damascus chainsaw is interesting as well, and finding your disembodied hand is also quite cool.

I still wanna know how this is all supposed to fit together though. I never even really figured out how the first two movies fit together, if at all. Take into account either ending for evil dead and the games are mildly screwed, since I have yet to play a game where he actually has his metal hand, unless I've forgotten part of one of them. First game is at least in continuity with evil dead 1 since he's been to the cabin before. Second game could be after that as well, nothing I can remember messes that up...third game is iffy though. We can assume he gets out of the crap he gets in at the end of the second one, and that the cabin stage of the third is just a flashback or such...the whole institution thing leaves an afwul lot open though for it being in his head, for all we know they're saying i went to the cabin once, left, and was declared crazy. arg, head hurts.

edit: OH HEY I FORGOT there's a c64 evil dead game, so consider all my "first, second, third"-ings to mean frist, second, and third disc-based game.

I picked this up tonight at EB. Looks fun and reviews aren't too bad on it, plus, and this was the icing on the cake: it actually has 720p resolution. On a budget game. Why are the big studios and publishers dragging their feet?

I played for about an hour and a half or so tonight and it's a very enjoyable game. If you're not a fan of the movies or Bruce Campbell, it's not nearly as much fun, but for those of us that have seen the movies and think Bruce Campbell could K.O. every other horror baddie schmuck in the first round, it's very fun. The extras you unlock are for the most part fun as well. The very first extra is hilarious. Bruce is talking about doing a movie with Matthew Perry and while walking to the set when Matthew says "You know, that Evil Dead game sucks." "Well, did you make it all the way to the end?" "Well, no." "Well maybe it's not the game that sucks, maybe you suck." The next day Matthew Perry goes to rehab, to which Bruce adds "These games are serious business" or something along those lines.

Definitely recommended, especially at the $20 pricepoint.

Evil Dead Regeneration rocks! The only thing that sucks is no One-Liners Button!!!! On Fistful of Boomstick, you could press Triangle and hear Bruce utter a hysterical one-liner whenever you wanted to. But there's enough banter between Ash and Sam to make up for it. It's hysterical.

While we're on the subject of the emodiment of awesomeness (Bruce Campbell) who has seen Man With the Screaming Brain yet? IT KICKS SO MUCH ASS! Such a Bruce movie in every way

I gave up on Evil Dead games after the awful Dreamcast Hail to the King... are any of the others really worth checking out? I love the movies.

Fistful of Boomstick (PS2/XB) more than makes up for the abomination Hail to the King was. And Regeneration is just as good. And they're both only $20 new.
