Wow. According to Namco, a gamer has a 1 in 20,000 chance of winning the final races in Ridge Racer for the PSP. One in twenty thousand! The game IS getting insane, and I'm not anywhere near the end yet. If you haven't played it for the PSP, there is now a nitrous feature. Later on, rival cars have a "zone" that senses when you are close and they can then use unlimited boost to evade you. When you hit another car in this version, there is a feature called "speed swap" in which you and the car you hit trade current speeds. This is especially devastating if you collide while using nitrous. It's a way faster game than on the consoles....and almost too crazy on a handheld.

Apparently, the best of the Ridge Racer development team has only ever won the final races twice.

I'm getting towards the end now, and it's already getting pretty crazy. You just can never catch up, and like you mentioned, they boost as soon as you do. I don't understand the point of making a game where it is impossible for the players to ever win and finish the game. Why bother?

I know people complain about games getting to easy lately, but I prefer games that allow good players to unlock and finish everything without being frustratingly difficult.

RR sounds just rediculous.

Yeah, it's just those 6 Max Tours that are damned ridiculous. In fact, they weren't even in the Japanese release. They were newly added for the US version for whatever reason. I stopped once those appeared, since I don't feel like having my PSP end up embedded a few inches into the drywall. Other than those, the Angelus Duel in the Pro Tours was the only other one that comes to mind that gave me considerable trouble. But this is pretty much the only one of the 4 games I own that I even touch anymore. Heh.

By the way, you don't unlock anything additional for clearing the Max Tours. They're just in there to make you want to plant your foot right in the dev team's crotches.

Yeah, I have given up on this game about 100 times, and yet, like an alzheimers patient I go back to it, but its hella fun and hard as anything....

Cheers for that, explains why I'm starting to have problems catching the car in first position on a number of races...

Wow, I didn't even know that. I haven't got that far yet in RR since I have been too occupied with other games but now I'm kinda anxious to get there.

I've won every race on the PSP's Ridge Racer. It's not that tough or time-consuming. Initially, I was a bit shocked as to how much of a jump in difficulty those last few races had compared to the rest of the game.

Where does the Ridge Racer dev team get that 1 in 20,000 figure anyway?

I beat the game aswell but I put way to many hours into it just to beat it.
The game is hard but I doubt that 1 in 20,000 theory.

I had read that the best way to win the max tours is to be sure and have three full tanks of nitrous on the last lap. If you empty all three within the vicinity of the lead car it'll "shock" him before he can react. The thing that I'm finding is to be very careful to remember not to pitch the PSP. LOL

ridiculous, like the word ridicule.

I also spelled that word wrong for probably 10 years before someone finally pointed it out to me. Spread the word, brother!

Beating the Max Tour simply becomes a process of keeping up with the 3 cars until the end of the 3rd lap. Use all three nitro boosts in a row and you should slip past the 1st place car and win the race.

1 out of 20,000? Yeah right.

Ender looked around at the games in the rec room and realized that they would be no fun due to the fact that the AI was so simple, Dodge when it's like this, run and set 9 traps when this situation occurs and then he realized it will get so hard that no human reaction could keep up with it with out even playing it. Ender then realized that the only fun would be the other boys because they could change instantly and can not be figured out so easly.

That sounds like what I hear here.

Well....I'm pretty much nearing the end now and I'm finding that the "best" cars handle like shit. LOL The PacMan car would be okay, but you can't see the road because the stupid propellors block your view, and I don't care for 1st person. I actually won some of the harder races by using the beginner cars, since they're less squirrely and can be driven with more control. I ended up being faster. There could have been some more work done to ensure that the tracks played equally well in reverse as they do in their normal direction. Sometimes the cars and the reverse tracks don't mate up well, especially at high speeds, the Greenfield tracks in particular.
