After reading thought the whole thread on the Nintendo Revolution controller I thought it would be fun to discuss what types of old games would need a face lift and a engine reworking to take advantage of all the revolutions features. This includes the controller, WI-FI and the ability of the revolution to communicate with the DS.

One game I would really be interested in playing with the new WI-FI technology would be Mortal Kombat II. Imagine having a top 100 list of the best Mortal Kombat players. Also at the end of the fight you could perform a fatality by moving the controller. Or using the DS to cut a character's head, arms or legs off.

Hell, you could probably pull off a pretty good fatality with the Revolution controller.

Or like nunchuk simulator games all spinning it around and shit breaking lamps.

I was thinking of this very thing when I was on the bus today. I was playing Pac-Man (on the GBA cart Pac-Man Arrangement) and thinking of all the years of bruised thumbs and fingers from handling game controllers. They used to call it "Pac-Man Elbow" in the early '80s.

Anyway, I'm wishing to myself that I could just use the stylus to steer Pac around. I don't even want to mess with a joypad anymore. And then I imagine playing with a Revolution controller or its equivalent. Point. Nod. Nothing more than pure intuition.

This is going to blow wide open, and one of the reasons is because of how classic games can be reinvented with the new control schemes. Asteroids. Pac-Man. Robotron. Tempest. Anything involving shooting or driving. It gets back to the basic questions of game design. Why do you need 14 buttons to play a game, anyway? What are you trying to achieve? What qualifies as "fun" or "addictive?" I refuse to believe that all the creative possibilites for videogames have been exhausted. Looking at human history, I'd say we've barely even begun.

heh "Pac Man Elbow" was a direct result of "Pac Man Fever" thats funny

it'd be cool if when they put Rad Racer up for download to the Revolution it acually went REAL 3d instead of red/blue 3d when you hit select.....that'd be awsome going from origonal to new age 3d like that

Tempest 4000! Wow, the revolution could really change these games.
