Should I get Rez for the PS2 or the DC? I want to get it for the DC, but it is more expensive, and I'd have to get it from online.

Dreamcast is better, but the PS2 is okay if you don't want to spend much.

Is the game any different between the two systems?

the DC runs at constant 30fps, the PS2 version has some added graphic effects, and sometimes runs at 60fps, the game is gorgeous at that rate, but it is annoying the way it cant maintain that rate. i think its a draw really, and you should just look for the cheapest version of the game you can find.

Yes, graphically, the DC is the better version by far. The PS2 version is an inferior port. It's still amazing, but definitely not as good as the DC version. There's a lot of extra texture maps in the DC one that add a lot of depth and sudden solidity to some of the environments. Not to mention it was designed for the DC then ported to the PS2.

The only upside to the PS2 version is the addition of the Trance Vibrator. And if you don't have a use for that, there's no upside to the PS2 one.

I guess I'm the only one, but I liked rez for the ps2 better then my dc version. I always thought it ran a lot smoother and looked a whole lot better. Plus it was a pain in the ass to get my european copy running on my DC. My modded ps2 loves to play my Pal copy though.

I'd vote for the Dreamcast version myself - who doesn't have a soft spot for that beautiful console, killed before it's time? :)

Really? I had NO trouble with it. I've got a US DC with a Utopia boot disc and a Euro Rez...fired up the very first time....

Dreamcast. Why? Because.

Look Rez is a real gem of that generation and if you want to own it in it's most collector pleasing form then you want the DC verision.

Oh and i agree with Chris Bid about the framerate issue as well. Rez the slowdowns in the PS2 version are noticable and for me took away from the experience.

Well, I've only played it on PS2, and it can be found in stores for $20 as we speak.

With nothing to compare it to, I can say I have no complaints with PS2 version.

I'd say PS2 since it's a domestic game...but if you can play the import DC one with a VGA box, that could make getting it more worthwhile.

Yeah, go for DC if you can. The slowdown on the PS2 isn't bad, but it is distracting.

I heard the PS2 version has slowdown, is that correct?

You're not, I played the DC version for the first time on Joe's DC store display and I was extremely disappointed. The PS2 version looks much better to me.

No, from what I've read in this thread, no issue of PS2 slowdowns has been mentioned at all. Hope this helps :)

Really? I've been wanting to get my hands on the PS2 version, but didn't want to pay the high ebay prices. Are these chains (EB, Gamestop, etc)?

I own and have played the PS2 version of Rez, and I don't remember any slowdown. I'm not saying "there was no slowdown", I'm just saying that I don't remember any. And if there was any, I was probably relieved, because sometimes the game throws a lot of stuff at you.

I'm with him. Having never played the DC version, I would have never known the PS2 version has slowdown. I've played it so many times through I pretty much shelved it at this point. I don't know, I would say if you aren't that sensitive to it go for the PS2 for TranceVibrator support.

How much would I have to pay to get a copy? The PS2 seems to be running pretty expensive.

Because it is that expensive. I could hardly find this game in stores when it was released. Expect to shell out $70-$90 for a second hand copy if you want one. DC version sells for about $35-$50.

Anyone would can get it for $20 as a previous poster said should be buying it on principle alone for that price. If nothing else, they can "Robin Hood" the copies on this site or others for a small profit. I assure you the line will be long if you offered copies of Rez for $35 a piece.

The DC version is cheaper, the PS2 version is better to look at even with an unconstant framerate. Plus, to the best of my knowledge, the Trance Vibrator is only available for the PS2 version.

i wouldnt even call what happens in the PS2 version "slowdown", the framerate slows a bit when the action ramps up, but the action itself doesnt slowdown, like on an NES game

I've heard of the Trance Vibrator but how is different from a Dreamcast rumble pack?

robotriot
09-20-2005, 04:31 AM
You can put the vibrator where ever you want, while you have to hold the rumble pack in your hands to play the game ;)

I've played through the PS2 version numerous times, and I didn't even notice the framerate going down at all. I've also bought the DC version a couple of months ago, haven't played it much for comparision though. Anyway, I'd say there is no slowdown in the PS2 version, but get which ever version is cheaper for you.

I've looked for well over a year and haven't seen a single new or used copy ANYWHERE. Maybe it's regional distribution?

1. It is stunning on a VGA montior.
2. You can use the DC mouse with it. I find using the Mouse to be much more intuitive.

BTW: I have DC Rez, US release for teh PS2 and the Japan release with teh trnace vibrator. THe trance vibrator, works with the version.

BTW: Rez is one of my all-time favorite games. I even have the strategy guide/soundtrack to the game. AWESOME game.

Hate to swing too much off the OP's original question, but I have to ask where you found your soundtrack? My local music store was able to track down the Gitaroo Man soundtrack for me, but had absolutely no luck finding Rez's.

I'd love to have the Rez mix of Adam Freeland's Fear. I like it so much more than the original version.

Wow, I had never even thought about that - I'll have to give it a try. Cheers! :)

If you don't have any luck finding it, shoot me an email (resqsoft@earthlink.net).

Another Soundtrack I would like to get is Katamari Darmaci....
