If you don't have something legitimate to boast about, please don't make something up.
I keep thinking of all of the great deals I've either had or instigated, and many of them are so fucking cool that I never mention them, for fear that I'll lose credibility. The problem is that they were REALLY GREAT DEALS, but in a bragging environment, it's hard to separate truth from horseshit.
A few of my examples? How about Panzer Dragoon Saga on clearance at Toys 'R' Us, for $20. This was when I aleady knew it was rare, so I bought it for my brother for Xmas. I figured that, should he not like it, I would tell him about it's potential value. I think I probably still have the receipt, if anyone cares.
Another? I have two sets of SMS 3D glasses (with adaptors, including a spare), that were both acquired, in perfect condition, for $5 each or less. One was a "shady deal" at Toys 'R' Us (to be elaborated upon in a future thread), the other was a customer who bought a car from me, who just happened to run the Curtis-Mathes store in town (one of the original rental outfits). On a mere hunch, I asked him if they still had SMS stuff "from the day". After describing the packaging to him, he told me that they had a box "in the back" of that stuff. I offered $2 each per item, and he agreed. When I got to the store, I was happy to notice his mint condition 3D glasses and card(I don't think they ever had 3D games to rent, besides Missile Defense), as well as various and sundry games (boxed) and accessories (light phaser, etc.) Lucky me.
I could go on and on, because I'm a nototrious cheapass, and therefore typically enter "brag quality" deals as a rule, but for now, I'll stop here. I'd be interested to hear what Joe and some of the more famous (or credible) collectors have for "unbelievable deals".

'Bout 5 years back. Found two HUGE boxes of Atari crap in a flea market. Bought them both and went through the contents when I got home. Bought myself the following:
- Atari 7800 system, all hook-ups, cables, and power supply. Worked fine.
- Two Atari 2600 Heavy Sixers. Both with all hookups and power supllies.
- One Atari 2600 Jr.- DItto on hook-ups and such.
- Two joysticks. Thought they were "Tron" joys, but weren't. They DID have a cord that could be re-wound into the base. VEry cool.
- One of those 6-carts selector dealies. Plug in 6 carts, plug in the box, choose one of the 6 games at the press of a button.
- ABout 250-300 misc. 2600/7800 carts. Many dupes and commons. HOwever, also contained: 3 Avalon Hill carts (London Blitz, SHuttle Orbiter, and WallBAll), several Panda releases, that one ski game released by AMiga (no joyboard though), and dozens of mid-to-decent rarities.
Cost: $40 for the whole she-bang. I ebayed my brains out and traded a lot for about a year on that score. Ahhhhhh...

Entex Adventurevision + 3 carts that someone left at my families business to see if I wanted it for $25. Needless to say I went down there immediately and took it home and left the $25. I was out of work and low on cash so I ended up selling it on ebay in 2001 to sspacewalk for $2550. I don't think I can ever top that deal. I have a Surface mail package on the way from Japan with a boxed Famicom, Famicom keyboard, Twin Famicom, Epoch Super Cassette Vision, some Casio computer, and some other stuff that my friend bought me for $200.

I once bought a complete new Alien Soldier from some woman who was selling it at an online market place (not ebay) for 3 bucks.
Most of my other good deals where in a package. Bought a saturn for 70 bucks with a bunch of games and shining force 3, or a saturn with 20 games including dragon force for 130 etc. I don't buy much loose stuff.

Unbelievable deals?
My personal favorite is the load of about 200 sealed games from Funco for $700. I resold and trades for more than double that. Granted, that cost $700, but the pic I still have of those stacks of games was well worth it.
Another was an Ebay lot. Paid $300 for it, but I got 2 boxed panesians from the lot, 30 boxes and 40 manuals I needed (including a complete Bonk), resold other stuff for $150, and traded a sealed Uninivited for a PAL Mr Gimmick.
But my best individual was a loose Game Action Replay for $5 from a SC pawn. The odd thing is the guy was selling a loose dirty ROB for $50, and has all the other NES DIRT cheap....*shakes head*

What kind of a store gets TWO copies of Radiant Silvergun in, and doesn't know what they are??? Damnit, I wish I had a store like that near me!
My best grabs are:
PAL 32X CD of Night Trap and Corpse Killer - £2 each (sold for £45 and £25)
10 jap Megadrive games for $160 incl shipping, which included Bare Knuckle 3, Phantasy Star IV, Virtua Racing, and . . . .Yu Yu Hakushu!! I sold BK3 and PS4 for about $120, making it quite a sweet deal.
Mega Man: Wily Wars (PAL) for £15 .. on ebay as well!
And, just recently, picked up a White Saturn with a load of jap games inlcuding X-Men vs. Streetfighter, KOF 95, 96 and 97, and . . . Metal Slug, for $200.
And I picked up a Multi-region Saturn with a load of good games for £85 on ebay (a good BIN!). I was going to sell off most of the games to cover my costs, but when Guardian Heroes and Saturn Bomberman went for £40 and £36 respectively, I decided I might as well keep the rest! Fortunately I already had copies of Bomerman and Guradian Heroes.
One of my big regrets is that I did not buy more games of the person I got my Bomberman from (for £10). He had Metal Slug, Twinkle Star Sprites and loads of other really rare stuff which he was selling fairly cheap. but I didn't have much money, and didn't really know how much they were worth so I passed it up... grr!

I have a few good ones.
California Raisians prototype for free. (The story is in "proto" forum)
Shining Force CD for ten bucks. My friend worked at a game store that didn't take Sega CD, so he bought Lunar for 5 bucks and passed up SF CD for Sonic CD. So the next day I go to this mom and pop game store and the kid brought his other 3 games there. Popful Mall, another working designs RPG, and Shining Force CD.
Being broke i could only get SF CD, but ten bucks ain't bad. I still cant believe he picked Sonic.
Panzer Dragoon 2 (its not saga but what the hey) complete for $5 bucks.
Puzzle Fighter for PSX for $15.99 (gamestop, they re adjusted the price and its now at $39.99)
Final Fight Guy for $10
NES: Silent Assult, G.I.Joe (Taxen) and TMNT Tournament Fighter for $10.
Vectrex (3 games no controler) for $15
Complete Syd of Valis and Sword of Vermillion (with hint book) for free.
Shining Force for Game Gear for $5.
Thats all I got.
Lets see here...
A few weeks ago I got a Famicom clone complete + 18 games for $30. I got a Spiritual Warfare prototype for my birthday. I found Tengen Tetris loose in August for $7. $30 got me a sealed Trolls on Treasure Island with the troll. Menace Beach complete for $2 from Babbages.
I believe that that's it for now.

I don't really hunt too much for old games.. but when I DO find them I snatch em up as quick as shit. The last pretty good find I got was at a used bookstore. hey were having a 20% off everything in the store day. I was browsing around and saw some Sega Saturn games.. Dragon Force, Panzer Dragoon, Mystaria.. and something else (i forget.. i'd have to get out of the chair here to check ;). But they were all around 4 bucks! Take away that 20% and I had a pretty good deal.
Other than that I scored a 2600 Konami Pooyan at Goodwill for 1.99 and a additional 2600 and a complete colecovision for 7 bucks each.
Actually these aren't really "great" finds. They're more "recent" finds. Most of my really cool stuff I payed full price for :/

Aside from a few complete (but not particularly rare) INTV games for $1.99, my bests would be:
1) (INTV) Dig Dug, Commando, and Diner NIB (and probably more, but those are the 'pricey' ones that I remember for sure came from this batch) for $5 or less in Toys R Us bargain bins, about the time that they were clearing them all out of stock, 'back in the day...
2) My first arcade cabinet- a unnnamed cocktail breakout machine. Not particularly amazing in terms of gameplay (but c'mon, it's good simple fun), but quite a good price at $20 from the Salvation Army

What kind of a store gets TWO copies of Radiant Silvergun in, and doesn't know what they are??? Damnit, I wish I had a store like that near me!
That particular store has dried up. It's too bad...last year, they were getting rid of so much Saturn stuff to make way for the new systems. Picked up a japanese Saturn steering wheel and 2 saturn multitaps for $5 apiece, as well. That was a once in a lifetime score...it's all downhill from there.

After working at Funcoland for nearly 3 years, I've walked away with many bags of free stuff...customer abanonments, boxes, books, etc. we don't take, store displays and much else. Plus I've let my friends know that I collect, so I've walked away with free gifts from them as well. Here are some I can recall shorthand:
Free Box of about 100-150 Colecovision & Atari 2600 games including: Revenge of the Beefsteak Tomatoes, Dishaster, Lost Luggage
Free complete 32X (less box)
$2 for London Blitz at flea
$1 for Super 3D Noah's Arc through Funco
$10 boxed, complete R.O.B. through Funco
Xbox Live display & Playstation Neon sign for free a few weeks ago (before I left Funco)
$15 last week for a sealed Mickey's Castle of Illusion for SMS
$5 last week for a sealed copy of Spirit of Speed for DC

Got ALL of these (60 total, including some not pictured) for FREE! :) All I had to pay was the fees to have them brought home on a semi ($500). I ended up selling a few to pay for fixing the rest, and sold the remaining ones for $10,000.00 US. Still got TONS of parts (26 boxes) plus marquees, side art, control panels, PCB boards, and about 300 manuals left too.

I've got a deal that seemed too good to be true. One day I walked into my local pawn shop, started hunting around for games, and came across an AMAZING Saturn package including several very rare titles... Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining Force III, Dragon Force... if it was an obscure RPG it was probably in there. The best part is that the whole shebang cost me just sixty dollars. You'd better believe I was excited.
