I recently picked up a complete copy of Fantasia for the genesis. But, when I opened it up the label on the cart says Segs Megadrive. The cart is a Gensis cart and it also says Genesis on the box.
Are they all like this?

Sounds like a European cart in a US box to me.
The European carts are the same shape as US ones, and with a few exceptions (Alien Soldier for instance) it will work in a US Genny completely normally.
Most Euro MDrive are more or less just the US version internally (i.e. most are NTSC and have a funky letterbox and run slower effect when used on PAL hardware).
Most companies weren't decent enough to actually fix the game for PAL tv's. Alien Soldier was supposedly optimized for PAL and a region locout was added. It will run on a US system with a gamegenie code though.
I have a european copy of FIre Shark that runs as if there was no region difference.
I actually have a Shining Force 2 cart that says it will run only on JP or Euro when I boot it in US, but I don't have a way of actually testing it in Euro mode, so I just run it in JP mode.
Anyone know what would happen in Euro mode language-wise and etc?

I think some games from US Gold had Euro boxes (said MegaDriive), and American labels...or was it American carts and Euro labels and/or box...crap, I forget but it was something like that...

I had teh same thing happen with Strider Returns (US Gold). The case was US and the game MegaDrive. Same thing with Kid Chameleon. Both games worked. No lockout.

EA released similarly mis-matrched games in Europe - almost all of their releases have Mega Drive boxes but Genesis carts. Put it down to cost-saving measures.

Ditto
I did a double take when I opened my copy of Strider Returns. It boots up just fine though. So far it's the only Mega Drive game I own.
I used to own Winter Challenge (US version). I remember the box said "compatible with Sega Genesis and Megadrive". The cart was also shaped differently. Were Accolade/Ballistic once an unlicensed developer for Sega?

I own both the Genesis and Mega Drive versions of Olympic Winter Games: Lillehammer '94 and both are visually similar and work fine in my Model 2 Genesis. (It was a U.S. Gold release as well...) I have the manual for the Mega Drive version...tripped me out having 6 languages until my smart self realized...duh...you have a European game here idiot....it NEEDS a manual in 6 languages...
