I have been playing both SSX games on my cube and every now and then, I get a disc read error in random places. I have about 90 other cube games that I have not had this problem with. SSX Tricky was bought brand new and the disc is in perfect shape, SSX3 was bought used but the disc looks really good.
Has anyone else had disc read errors with either of the SSX Gamecube games?

I had a copy of f zero GX that had not been printed properly or something that was brand new and sealed but also had disk read problems. Try swapping it.

When you say that F-Zero had disc read problems, do you mean that it would just randomly reset the game to the title screen? Because that's not a disc problem. There was actually a flaw in certain production runs of Game Cubes (not sure what it was exactly) that caused this game in particular to reset randomly. Super Monkey Ball 2 also experiences some fatal glitches from what I saw.
The good news: Nintendo covers this as a warranty replacement, regardless of the Cube's age. They sent me a new one so now I can play Monkey Ball 2 without the game crashing.
I kind of wonder if it's the same thing going on with SSX 3... Do you have any way of trying the disc on a different GC?

no it would sort of get stuck in certain places. hard to explain sometimes it wouldnt get past the title screen. I swapped it for another f zero and everything is great.

Okay, yeah, definitely a dud disc then. But at least you weren't sitting around wondering why the game would suddenly reset itself without warning on the final race of a GP. Ugh.

Something simiar used to happen to me. Once I finished a cup and it went back the mode select screen, it'd freeze. I don't know what happened but I'm pretty sure it doesn't do it anymore. Weird
