I'm not buying it because it won't play GB or GBC games NOR does it have a port for the link cable.

Once it goes down in price, I might get one for an on-the-go GBA thing or simply for collection reasons (I mean, the Famicon one is BADASS) but it's not worth $100 if it can't play all my gameboy stuff.

NOR does it have a port for the link cable.

it can use regular GBA link cables with an adapter, or you can get separate GBM-sized link cables (links: wireless adapter (http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=45&products_id=7481&), micro link cable (http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=45&products_id=7480&), and adapter (http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=45&products_id=7479&)).

I held a dummy and they are so small that I can barely hit the buttons right, don't think I'll get one too soon. :/

never, ever trust the feel you get from a dummy unit. The weight is always off (since there's no battery or electronics inside), and i've held almost no dummy electronics that had the button feel the same as the actual unit - which IMO is the most important thing when it comes to things like cell phones and game systems.

I plan to get mine in a real store, that way there's always the return option, but my understanding was it's wider and therefore more comfortable to hold than the SP, and if you look at the side-by-sides, the A & B buttons are actually bigger than the DS's buttons.

I have the impression that Nintendo will keep the GBM at a higher price, so that it tends to be owned by older gamers, while the SP2 is owned by younger gamers. If Nintendo releases a GBM2 that has GBC compatibility, I'd pay $99 for it :)

Anyone buy a micro yet, I saw then in several stores yesterday. Any comments/reviews from personal experience?

Having "big man hands" I don't think i'll be able to use this. Shame looks quite nice. Bit expensive though.
Maybe the lady will get one and I can stare at it...hmm

I'm kinda in the same situation, except the girl doesn't game =(
But these banana-hands are always getting in the way. I can play the original xbox controller, though, so its all good.

I'd say I have large hands...but I played a little bit the other day with my friends unit and didn't really have a problem.

Also, the screen really isn't that bad. You get used to it pretty quickly.

That being said, the only reason I'm buying one is to add to my GB collection.

I've used mine every single day since I bought it .. on the bus, outside, doing laundry, etc - and it's absolutely wonderful. You get used to it really quick, and somehow going back and playing on the SP just feels .. weird. All I wish is that the L & R buttons on the micro weren't quite as awkward as they are. I've adapted to it, but it wasn't exactly natural.

I'm going to import the Japanese Famicom color by the end of the week. I cannot resist. I love the Japanese style, and I have to keep up the Gameboy collection.
Plus, I saw the box, and it just put me over the edge!

Edit:
Whoo! I just got my order confirmation. I ordered one. I figured, if I'm going to break down and buy one, I might as well make it worth my while. I bought the Famicom one from Lik-sang. :D

Yeah, so I threw in some extras. ;) (Can't wait to see what random things I got.) I was also going to get the Super Mario Bros 2 Famicom Mini to go with my imported SMB1 Famicom Mini I got last October, but it's out of stock! I waited too long. :( So was Twinbee. The two imports I really wanted.

Bump!

My micro has been shipped! I can't wait to get it! I'm going to keep my imported Japanese SMB Famicom Mini in the slot permanently. It's only right seeing as it has "Happy! Mario 20th" on the back.

Can't wait! I think I opted for the 3-7 day shipping. I hope. If it's as fast as my Famicom Mini SMB arrived, it'll be exactly 10 days. We'll see.

Awesome! Glad to hear it. I'm going to order mine probably tomorrow. I ordered the Famicom SP when it came out, and I really wanted the other version, but that thing was waaaay too expensive. This Gameboy Micro has the same look I wanted. I cannot wait to get my hands on it!

Bought mine the day it came out and haven't stopped playing it since. It's PERFECT for school and something you can just throw into your pocket.

And for all of you complaining about backwards compatability, imagine how unbelievablly uncomfortable it would be to have the cart sticking out of the bottom, as it gets in the way of your hand space. It's a drawback, sure, but it was a sacrfice that needed to be made.

If so, I will be extremely happy. But I have to work, so dammit it'll be hard. (Why not today when I'm off??)

Meh to Pokémon. Now, if they did release a US equivalent to this Famicom micro for Mario's 20th birthday that had an NES controller face as well as one or two extra SMB themed plates, I'd be so happy. How about three extra plates themed after SMB 1, 2 and 3? Wow, that'd be cool. We'll see. If it happens, I expect it to happen next year sometime.

I think Nintendo should have built an MP3 player in as standard, surely they can see how popular the iPod is.You've already got the small size, screen and buttons needed. Maybe the unit would have so be a tiny bit bigger to include a microUSB port and a decent amount of memory, at least 1Gb.

But think of the mass market appeal - iPods are cool, but an iPod that had changeable faceplates and could play MarioKart is surely the ultimate thing. It could have even stood a decent chance against the PSP. I mean, when you just want to play games on the 25min tube to/from work, do you really need super amazing 3D graphics and a larger overall unit? No, you want a small tiny device to have a quick crack on Zelda or listen to some music.

I just got my Famicom Micro!!! It is AWESOME!

It's so tiny! It's so SHINY! It's so cool!

I am so happy I bought this. Not to play, well, maybe, but mainly for the coolness factor. It's one of those things you'll look at 10 years down the road and remember. Oh, by then of course they'll probably release the HAPPY! MARIO 30 DS Nano or something. LOL

The faceplate is solid gold! Okay, not really. It's plastic but it's shiny. The case is red/maroon and is also shiny. Silver L and R buttons. Nice black a and b buttons. The Select and Start buttons blink RED when the system is sleeping. They glow BLUE while charging. On the back is the 20 logo. It's awesome to say the least.

It only has one faceplate of course. Mainly being a special edition. But it still comes off. But really, would you want to take this one off? It IS the system maker!

The packaging is the pinnacle of Japanese cool. From the small box to the Mario graphics inside to the super kicky cool awesome fun time manual. To the little carrying sleeve it comes with. This thing is neato boss cool.

One of my best purchases lately. 8-) :D

As some extras so id didn't feel lonely on the trip over, I got three more Japan exclusive trinkets..

Pepsi Top, Goomba on a block.

I have the urge to collect them all.

Mine is currently on its way out of Honk Kong.
Normally, I go with Lik-Sang, but this time I went with Play-Asia. It was about $10 cheaper even with the ultra kickass fast shipping. I'm tracking this baby every step of the way.
The suspense is killing me!

BTW, those Mario stage figures are wonderful. I have World 3-1 and World 4-3 myself. Everyone who sees them comments on how cool they are.

Jasoco

I love the Stage Figure. I am totally going to import a few more and hope for the best. I really really really feel like importing a dozen of each of the Stages, Pepsi Toppers and Keychains. LOL They're just so freaking COOL! The US never gets anything nearly as cool as this stuff.

I'm curious though. On Lik-Sang, the description says the stages will be V2. But apparently they just pick from both sets. So not bad. I really want the Bowser fight and end castle with the flag. And maybe the infinite 1UP trick with the stairs and warp zone.

As soon as I get my camera, i will have a lot of updating to do to my newly redone website (http://www.jasoco.net/). So hopefully if I get the camera tonight, look for pictures later on. Of course I'll post in here too. Duh. ;)

I took some pictures to start off with. My new camera's supplied batteries are dead and I can't find the 6 rechargeable I used to have, so I can't continue. I'll take more pictures tomorrow. For now, the standard box and Gameboy shots.

Nintendo is crazy if they don't release a NES version of the micro. While they are at it, they might as well also release SNES and SFC micros, as the micro's shape and controls are somewhere between a NES/Famicom and a SNES/SFC (with the L/R buttons).

Mine is currently floating around my town as we speak. It arrived about an hour ago, and like previous UPS orders, it'll probably be here around 1 p.m. Unfortunately, I won't be back home until probably midnight. But when I do, I'm going to be in heaven!

The photograph on the box is actual size.

The Micro is an inch shorter than an NES controller. Only like 1/8" narrower vertically and 1/8" thinner. Not bad. I can totally see an NES controller style Micro.

The case itself is metal. The face is plastic. It's refreshing to see another metal console in an age of plastic. (Even the PSP is mostly plastic.)

I love the colors of the LED's. Blue and Red. Two great shades as well. The LED's shine blue and blink in sync when you turn it on. But they go off when the game loads. (Saves battery because obviously you can tell when the system is on.) And blink blue when sleeping.

I just opened mine up. WOW!
Unbelievable that something that freaking small has a picture that clear. It totally blows the DS away. I'm so happy I bought it.
Like I said earlier, I bought mine through play-asia. The only thing I ever bought there was the Mario Stage figures. I guess you get freebies on "big" orders. The sent me a free bag of Happy Candy Cherry, and a Biohazard 4 sticker. I even got the Club Nintendo pin number for the thing too. I swear I wish I could use it.

Lik-Sang gives you points for anything you buy. I now have 19,000+ points. Too bad all the good stuff in my point range is gone. I assume they'll restock and add stuff as time goes on. At one point they had a Crazy Taxi arcade cabinet. If that were still there, I'd save up for that. ;)

I've toured around the world, from London to the Bay
It's "Hammer, go Hammer, MC Hammer, yo Hammer"
And the rest can go and play

You can't touch this...

http://www.jasoco.net/collection/gameboymicro/Comparison%20Layout.jpg
Here we have the obligatory comparison shots. First up, layout with other recognizable objects. From the bottom-left clockwise:
Sega Nomad, Apple MessagePad 120 (Newton), Nintendo GameCube Disc (Ikaruga), Sony PSP UMD (Lumines), Gameboy Advance Cartridge (Famicom Mini 01: Super Mario Bros), Nintendo GameCube Memory Card 59, Nintendo DS Game Card (Nanostray), Nintendo Pokémon Pikachu (First Generation), Nintendo Gameboy Micro Famicom Version, Apple 10GB iPod (3rd Generation - Closest in size comparison), Gameboy Advance SP (Flame), Sony PlayStation Portable (Black), Nintendo DS (Silver - The reason there's so much glare), NES Controller.

http://www.jasoco.net/collection/gameboymicro/Comparison%20Stacked.jpg
Next up we have the stack. From largest (Nomad) to smallest (Micro). I was going to put my red "Play it Loud" Gameboy in there, but couldn't find it. So the Nomad came to the rescue. Amazing to think that 10 years ago, that was the pinnacle in portable gaming technology. Now look at what we have.

I updated my website (http://www.jasoco.net/game-collection/famicom-micro/) to reflect these new photos. I'd love it if people would comment. :)

Anyone else have questions?
