I want to know which company is the best in the arcade market and why. No one is allowed to say because I like it. Sega makes the best racing games IMHO. Hang-on, Intial D, Daytona USA and Outrun. According to Mame's history file, Daytona is still the best arcade machine ever. Nothing has come close. Though I think Sega finally out did themselves with Initial D. SNK makes the best adaptable machine. The Neo-Geo is awesome. 4 slots, not much work to change the line-up. Best fighter, Capcom's Street Fighter 2 is my favorite because it does what a fighter needs to do, Get people to beat each other up. It also features a broad choice of charcters for a new player. Best shooting game is Konami. Police 911 2 is so much better then time crisis due to the mocap ability and the fact that it make the player get in shape or die :D Easyst to learn, Pac-Man. Move stick, eat pellets, avoid ghosts. Most fun, Emergency call ambulance. Promotes good drving, Fun to me.

Atari. On the list of top 50 of all time, Atari probably takes 45 of the spots.

Had to go with SEGA. Just too many cool games, too many fun memories! LOL

I gotta go with Atari. So much variety and memorable classics: Asteroids, Tempest, Centipede, Crystal Castles, Pong, Missle Command etc.
Namco is right up there too with games like Pac Man, Ms Pac-Man, and Galga. I guess i'm bodering on being an Atari fanboy. :P

Everybody who hasn't responded by saying "Williams" is obviously on crack. :D
BTW, the only correct answer is also the same answer for pinball.
Williams.

I had to vote other. It always will come down to what you like the best, or what you grew up playing, either way it's always biased. My choice would have been Nintendo- obviously if you know me. From the original wide body cabs like DK, Mario Bros, Popeye, to the Playchoice 10, the VS. cabs,to the newer cabs like Cruisin' to the SMB pinball.
Although Namco is up there- I spent a ton on Galaga as a kid!
Almost forgot to mention the beautiful dual screen Punch Out!

i'd probably go with atari (asteroids, centipede, 720, paperboy, tempest, etc etc etc).
if you've only played the games on emu or console ports they are still great (for the most part), but the actual machines were so great. they really epitomize my favorite memories of haunting arcades as a kid. the art was always top notch. machines like 720, paperboy, shit--STAR WARS--totally next level.

I agree.
However, I will give Williams a close second (did they even make a bad game?)

I like Atari coin ops as much as the next guy, but look at it this way: that leaves only 5 spots for every other company. No way that's possible just based on Space Invaders, Robotron, Pac-Man, Frogger, Zaxxon, Galaga, Defender and Sinistar.
25 spots, maybe ;)

Let's do it! LOL
If we can agree upon a metric for calculating ratings, then I'd be glad to sponsor the DP Arcade Alley Top 50.

If no one else, amuse yourself.
