Is the Sega Master System universal? I own 2 European cassettes. Can it play Japanese cassettes?

97% of US, European & Brazilian carts are interchangable and can play on a system from any of those regions.
Japanese (& Korean) Mark III/SMS systems have differently shaped carts, and aren't compatible. There's no commercial adaptors, but it's possible to build one if you're a technical wizard.
