I am about to buy a top loader from somone and they say when they put in games it "blinks". However I thought this was fairly uncommon in toploaders.

They say I can replace the connector? Can I actually do that? Or do you think the system needs a good cleaning? Or maybe its just the games?

Or what about a piece of dead hardware?

Thanks for hte help

It's probably that the games are REALLY dirty. Toploaders are very "blink resistant" but they aren't invincible either. If it blinks with a lot of games, then it may be something else.

I second the cleaning because TMNT: The Arcade Game blinked for me on my top loader but a little rubbing with a white eraser and some alcohol an all was better.

okay but can you even replace the connectors in a toploader if its not? I dont want to buy a broken system and then just watch it sit...

I would assume so but i can't say for sure. I think the connector is just soldred on the board (haven't opened mine in a while so i can't say for sure) and if it is then you should be able to replace the connector.

The toploader isn't some magical system. It faces all the same problems that a SNES, Genesis, what have you has. It's a fairly common occurance for me that a game won't work on the first try, or even the first few tries sometimes, and I clean every game I buy before putting it in. If you're like me and your carts are all used and they very in condition from excellent to extremely beat up, you'll still have to deal with worn out connectors. Just give the system and difficult games a cleaning occasionally, and you'll be good to go.

Even if you have some issues with a toploader, it's still infinitely better than the difficulties of an original NES.
