Ok, so I got a modded PSX today to play import games with. Well, Vib Ribbon works fine, but I have somesort of "warning" message when I play Ore No Ryouri. So if anyone could kindly tell me what it says and how to get on with it, you would have my instant gratitude (but not necessarily undying)

Yea... around 1999 someone figured out a way of detecting a mod chip in any PS1.. The copy protection just refuses to play on a modified PS1 even if it's an original disc. Not many new games do this as people were screaming foul over it (right to backup your software blah blah) Many people started their PS1 "backuping" due to the fact that their rental games wouldn't play so you have to make a patched backup even to play the game. Needless to say it was a counter-productive way of protecting PS1 games.

anyway, you will need to rip your game CD with cdrwin to a .bin .cue cd image format and "patch" it to remove the protection.

you can get patchs here: http://www.megagames.com/psx/psx_patches.shtml

but they don't have many imports, you will need to find the Japanese equivilent of this site..

That pissed me off beyond belief, as the one game that I wanted to play more than anything - Strider Hiryu 1 & 2 - had that stupid anti-mod detection crap in both the import AND U.S. released versions. To this day I still can't play the originals on my PSX. At least I don't have to worry about that with my PS2, since I don't ever plan to mod it. I'll buy a Japanese PS2 first.
