I hope someone can help me. My Game Gear has recently started to shut itself off as soon as I switched the power on, using official Sega GG AC adaptor. The AC adaptor seems fine with no defects and my GG has not been used extensively since I got it brand new in 1991. This problem has happened once before but it disappeared on its own, but now it is back and not going away. What can be done to fix it, assuming it is not too complicated? Has anyone else experienced similar problem and what were the fixes, if any?

Just my uneducated guess, but it sounds like a wiring problem of sorts. I'd open up the Game Gear and see if anything is loose and/or snapped.

Does it turn right off each time you turn it on? Can you just keep doing it over and over again?

The Game Gear will turn itself off if it detects that voltage is too low. Do you have another power supply you can use to test? One from a model 2 Genesis would work.

Will it work on battery power?

What I discovered over the weekend was that if the system had been turned off for more than 24-48 hrs and then turned back on again, the GG seemed to work without problem. But about 30 secs later, the system shut down by itself again and continued to do that everytime I turned it back on. Next I will try different AC adaptors.
