I just got a Model 2 NES in the mail today, at a decent price by eBay standards ($75 with shipping). But....

I know pretty much zilch about modding consoles for AV, and have no confidence in my ability to do so. The most complicated mods I've done include chopping the tabs off my Super NES and swapping heads off two Cobra Commander figures so that the hooded version has the body of the original version (i.e., so he'll look more like the cartoon).

So, I need someone with more experience to do the job for me. Preferably someone who's done this specific mod before. And for a reasonable price, of course. ;) I have a toaster NES and some extra games if you'd like a trade as well to defray the costs.

IF ALL you want is a/v, just get the damn a/v cables.
I'd offer to s video mod it for you, but i'm REALLY busy lately and nobody will give up those schematics anyway.

???

The NES uses RF only.. there is no AV cable.

I too have an extra top loader that I wanted to add AV to, but I tested it and noticed the vertical bars. Has anyone figured out how to remove them? from what I read, they also show up in the AV out! :(

Model 2 NES=RF out only, just so you know, Kamino. But thanks for the oh-so polite S-Video mod offer.

@LeonK: I think there's a mod that can be done in conjunction with the NES2 AV mod. Don't hold me to that, though.

Nope there is currently NO way to get rid of them and they still show up in the A/V mod.

But they're not in the Japanese Toploader. :)

Too bad I've lost faith in pin converters. :( *holds up bent converter that doesn't work with Rad Racer II past the title screen*

Has anyone compared the IC's between the jap top loader and the US? IT could be some caps (acting as filters) are missing, and we can add them back in.

Also, some one suggested to replace the video GPU with one from the toaster..

The cap method has been tried. Adding so called "missing" caps AND changing the value of different caps. No luck.

Also some speculate that it's a shielding problem and the lines are rf interference. But that hasn't ever been confirmed.

You're thinking of the Super-8. It doesn't work on a toploader, I've tried it.

So does the s-video mod eliminate the visual issues with the top-loader?

Sorry kaine, it doesnt exist.
SNES 2 can be s video modded...but sadly, NO NES can be s video modded. If a Nes could be s video modded, id've done it months ago :\
