I've combed the Web trying to find an answer to this question: how the heck do I clear the memory off of a Sega CD Model 2 unit? I can't for the life of me remember.

Turn the deck on with no games in it, so it defaults to the blue/green screen with the stereo looking thing. Open the small side bar, and click on Memory.
If the menu doesn't pop up with no game in it, toss in a music cd and it will default to it.

Mine has been a bit trickier, I have the Sega CD 2 (side by side) and I have to hold down A B and C right after the system powers on, then it gives my a tab to go to memory above the CD controls.
Hope this helps.

Well, I'm home on my lunch break and neither suggestion works. For Dangerboy's suggestion I don't have a side bar and for davespec's suggestion all I get is the CD menu but no extra options.
The enigma continues...

For the Model 2 Sega CD, first pop in a game disc. Turn on the power. When it says checking disc, keep pressing Start until it goes to the cd screen. There you will now see in the upper right corner 2 new options..."CD-ROM" and "MEMORY". Simply gointo MEMORY and either format the entire internal memory or delete stuff one by one. Hope that helps!

Yes, when you click on memory you will hear a tone and the sceen will show what's stored on the internal drive. The image will be of the Sega CD 2, and not model one as these pics show, but you get the idea:

I'm piggybacking my Sega CD question .. I have a Genny 2 on top a Sega CD 1. It works. But on my original Sega CD with a Genny 1, I used to plug in a mixing cable from the Genny's headphone to the Sega CD. You used it to mix the Genny PCM with the Sega CD tunes, then I'd direct out to my stereo.
Well, I'm tired of mono on the current setup ... it looks like there is no port for a Mixing Cable on the Genny 2. So how's this all work?
Anyway, I don't have the original mixing cable anyway.. is it a standard 1/8" connection like I could get at Radio Shack?

If i remember correctly the Genny 2 has stereo sound built into the din port (port you use to connect genesis to tv). The mixing port is actally for people like me that have that original headphones port on the front of the genesis. If you want to route your audio thru the mixing port anyway get a stereo genesis model 2 wire and use rca inline (they extend audio wires) and a stereo rca to phono adapter.
Stereo RCA to Phono Adapter:

RCA Inline:
Should be in the audio section at walmart 2.88 for two, radioshack has them to.

I just looked again .. my cable only has a yellow video and one (white) cable ...I have a mono cable for my Genesis 2. That sucks. I need a different cable Genesis 2 ==> TV port, which is probably not sold in Radio Shack. :(

Thanks to all who posted. LiquidPolicenaut was correct but I had to do it in this order:
1. Power on with no disc (or a music CD).
2. Press Start to go to the Console.
3. Insert a game CD (after removing music CD if I had one in there).
4. Memory menu appears.
Finally! Now I can properly play some games.
