Revised original post.

Today finally received the last box I needed for my Tengen NES collection, a box that has eluded me for a very long time: Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom. As of now my Tengen NES collection is completely boxed, and at 95% completion, with a few manuals missing still.

I'm quite proud of myself because i think this was the first real sub-collection I started when I got the game collecting bug!

Don't forget! You need the game specific Tengen registration cards, and tengen cardboard cartridge sleeves to make a complete tengen NES game!! :-P ;)

Awesome collection! Congrats!

Yeah left over from my old NES days when I wrote the Konami code down on the sleeve. ^^ I also do plan to get the licenced copies of Gauntlet and RBI Baseball too (I have Pac-Man already).

I have all the Tengen games as well but none of them are in their boxes. I'm sure your stuff looks so nice on shelf 8-)

Congrats, man!

I, too, have the need to finish my Tengen collection. I have no idea why. They just look so cool.

I need part 2 of the baseball series and one other... I forget.

Mine are all loose, though. Your set in MUCH nicer.

Why thank ya! Sure the boxes are in varying degrees of being beat up but the collection looks good on my bookshelf!

Nice collection, there. I have all of three Tengen games and only one boxed. Maybe in 20 years I'll have all of them too. LOL

I love it, but 99% of the board members here will probably tell you it sucks. It even gets a scathing review in the DP guide where it's graphics are called VCS-like (which I don't see at all).

My only problem with it is that it's like the 2nd hardest NES game in existence to beat legitimately (behind only Overlord), and the programmers inexplicably commited the cardinal sin of switching around the Jump and action buttons (Jump is B in this game).

No idea. Been collecting bits and piece sof it for maybe the past couple years now. Getting game shere and there, picking up manuals and boxes when I can from here and ebay lots and selling off the leftovers places. I am proud of my hard work to get all 20, especially Tengen Tetris, now the harder part of getting the remaining boxes and manuals begins.

I am also more proud of this then my other sub-collections (Dragon Warrior, Mega Man, etc) since I had none these games when I got the urge to start this sub-collection too!

Dont know if you care about liscensed vs. unliscensed but you seem to be missing the liscensed gauntlet.

Nice mini-collection, though. I just checked and am only 4 away. Funny thing is, they are the most common! LOL . Maybe I'll make this a mini-goal of mine.

This game came up a little less than a year ago, and Dr. Morbis and I were trying desparately to defend it, but I don't think we got any takers. The game is brilliant in a twisted, artsy kind of way. And as the good Dr. says, it's freakin' difficult as all git-out. The viewpoint is kind of inconsistent, and figuring out where your jumps are going to land is an art form that you develop over time.

Congrats, Kaine! I always thought there were more Tengen NES games than that; that's an achievable goal, though. I bet Tetris was the hardest part.

Tetris was definitly the most expensive part, got it complete for about $40-50 on ebay a few months back.

And about the boxes, outside of taping the bottoms to better support them (which is what I do anyhow), any suggestions?

Opening boxes to flat and putting them to under some weight (pile of magazines/books) won't do any bad I think :)

I'm still missing few...

Yeah when I got the majority of them they were delivered flattened, the rest were in the right shape, just various conditions of wear.

And naturally you have a couple of the ones I need. LOL

since you guys seem to be the "experts" on tengen games I had a question, I've got most of the tengen released games and I noticed that rbi 3 is the only one without a back label, however the same data thats on the stickers is molded on the cart, is this the only game like that? (i've only found one copy of the game so I dunno if there are normal label varients of it or not)

left is rbi3 right is rbi2

i've come across a few 100 tengen games over time and this is the only one i've seen with this kind of back, but i've only ever found one rbi3 so I dunno if they are all like that or not.

Kaine23, Thanks! The spares are listed in my tradepage: http://koti.mbnet.fi/yab/nes/trade.php

Blitzwing256, Checked the back of my RBI3 and it does have a normal sticker. I'm pretty sure your version is a lot rarer.

:o

ZOMG SUPER RARE VARIANTS!!!

seirously, though; you just may have something really special on your hands. All of the Tengen carts that I've ever seen, RBI3 or otherwise, have NEVER had that feature!

maybe you should post this in the NES cartridge variants topic (hopefully this link will work: http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=67756&view=previous&sid=060ba2a57b47457ce0d7baa0ecf3121b) do you know where you got it?

Nice, you even got the Pac-Man 10th anniversary box variant.

As for the RBI 3 embossed back, I've never seen that before. Maybe just a few of those backs got out the door before Tengen shut down.

Stickers cost money, so it could have been a new cost saving feature they were starting before being shut down... You should open the game and see if it's just a normal tengen board inside! (and perhaps get the date off some of the chips)

I had a Ms. Pac-Man with the embossed label. Unfortunately, I don't have any pics of it (and traded it away to boot).

Only gray licensed titles were RBI 1, Gauntlet and Pac-man.

Which manuals are you missing?
Pac-mania, RBI 1 (licensed version), Road Runner, Shinobi and Toobin' at last check.

While I'm thinking about it, does anyone know if the manuals for the licensed games are different looking then the long ones for the unlicensed titles?

Congrats on having a complete set of games from one of the NES's best publishers. IMO, Tengen is way underrated.

Guess I'm one of the 1 percent. I, like Graham Mitchell, defended this game a while back in some random thread but lost.
It's a very good, solid game once you get used to it. It gives you a lot of freedom and you can simply screw around and not properly play the game, if you feel like it. Few NES games let you do that. The controls are a little challenging at first, but that's mostly due to the unique 3D perspective that's rarely used in other games.
The only bad parts are the the fact that Wave 9 is only passable by sheer luck (the lava monsters you need to kill to cross the lava appear randomly), and that Wave 10 shows you the vital level map only once (hope you have a camera handy like I did).

Indy also came out in a grey cart, but it was published by Mindscape...if I were you I'd look for it just to have a totally complete collection.

Working on getting the missing manuals to make this 100%: Shinobi, Toobin, Road Runner, and Pac-Mania. And a better condition Temple of Doom box.
