Is there a way to play US games on a Japanese Saturn?

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering if there is a way to play US games on a white Japanese Saturn, preferibly without installing a mod a chip or anything? Do any of the carts (action replay, ST key, etc.) allow you do this? Also, can you use US controllers withe a Japanese Saturn? :)

You can use US controllers with a Japanese Saturn, but the only way to play US games on one is to have a region mod switch installed. None of the ST-Keys or anything work for that.

I use a stock Japanese Saturn with a cart called "CD+Plus Universal Import Game Adaptor" to play US games. I only have 3 US games (PDS, Shining The Holy Ark, and Last Gladiators) but they all seem to work fine.

You can get Panzer Dragoon Saga to work with an import cart? I thought I read it wouldn't boot with those..?

PDS will not work with any sort of a ST-Key or import cart. It has some coding which locks the game out if it detects anything other than a official Mem Cart in the slot. If you have a Jap SS and are looking to play the US game I would recommend either A) switching your SS, (and if anybody knows where to get this done please pm me as I want my spare SS switched so I don't ruin my Skeleton SS) or B) buying a US SS as they are fairly cheap and reliable.

EDIT: Sorry I know I have seen people have many problems with Panzer Dragoon RPG: Azel, I have a US PDS and never had problems with my AP+ in the slot. But for some reason the JP version does not load.

I too have heard of many people having problems with various carts and AZEL (I have rarely heard of someone trying to run the US game on a Japanese system). However, I have never experienced any problems with the setup I have.
