View Full Version : Who hasn't played Atari Combat, ever?

This is a 24-hour poll. Consider it research for my blog.

Combat was the pack-in game for the Atari VCS from October 1977 until whatever dark day when Pac-Man came out and became the pac-in game. (pun intended)

It's probably the most common game for the Atari 2600.

Is there anybody out there who hasn't played it?

If you have played it, answer the poll and tell me how many copies of it you've owned at one time.

If you haven't played it, mark it down on the poll, m'kay?

I used to play the crap out of the game back in the day. That was until the 5200 was released.

I have. I had two copies at one time, and I was actually able to get rid of one of them.

I've played it. I hadn't played it until I started collecting though and I was testing all my 2600 carts. Was pretty fun, defenitely seems like a great 2 player game.

I've played it at a friend's house, but I've never actually owned one until this past CGE (thanks Jibba! ;) ).

Does that count for anything? LOL

24 years after getting my first Atari 2600 and I still whip my little brother like a dog in any Combat game he chooses. Even if I'm on Difficulty A. (it's okay. He pwns me at Sky Diver :embarrassed: ). Put me down for a yes...I mean a no...er....I have not not played Combat.

I'm actually getting ready to redesign my sig banner to something with a Combat theme. Keep watching the space below you...

I've never played it.
I even own a copy of it.
I'm not to big on Atari stuff. ;)

I can't believe that so many people don't own it. It's literally a game of pure genius, and stands as one of the best multi-player games ever... at least in my opinion.

Unless you count Atari Anthology, which I think has it on it, I have one copy and that is all that I've ever owned. The GOAT Store on the other hand has owned up to 50 copies at a time, and trust me -- I'm not trying to get them!

I've never actually played it, even though I own roughly 20 copies of it. :/

I have like 8 copies. I had more, but I keep giving them away whenever I come across an atari that I can pass off on someone else.

Tank pong was the best. You always played by who had the sweetest bankshot. Points never counted.

On the planes - I always loved being that giant bomber-lookin' plane.

Sadly, I don't remember playing this so take my vote as a "NO". If I did, I was probably to young to remember. I played my fathers atari and Colecovison so who knows....

I used to love it, but somehow don't have a copy anymore. Agree with Dan -- excellent 2 player game. Anyone going to Sean Kelly's shindig bring a copy and look for me!

Count me in, I like that game a lot, although there are better tank games on the 2600, I have 4-5 copies and they are all label variations.

I own around 5 copies of the game and have spent hours playing it over the years. Great 2 player fun.

I have tons of copies here too. For those who haven't played it, you are missing out. It's a good have a friend over and shoot at each other game. There are enough variants to even handicap v/s a better player. (IE: fighter squad v/s bomber) or tank pong where the bullet has to bounce once before it hits. So quit missing out and take a break from the latest and greatest and try one of the classic common & cheap & fun titles. Who knows, you may even become a better person for trying it. :)

I own 5 Atari games and 3 of them are Combat. Great game although I never did as well with the planes as I did with the tanks.

I just checked. There is no review of this game in the DP Review section. @_@ LOL I was sure someone would have posted one at sometime.
