I watched the interesting video. Interesting becasue one of the guys had a hands-on experience with the controller one day before it was revealed to the public.

Intentions of Nintendo: "get your mom to play; simple games; extreme casual gamers, non-gamers."

Impressions of the guy: eye toy experience, party experience, family-friendly experience.

Interesting also was that N used Metrioid Prime 2 to demonstrate the new controller; and, not surprisingly, there were serious gameplay issues beyond the fact that it wasn't a polished demo.

The more I hear about this controller, the more I am convinced that the new system won't be a traditional console by any means: not when it comes to the target audience, not when it comes to game content, not when it comes to third-party support, not when it comes to play mechanics. Play mechanics are tailored towards simple, short games witrh simplified AI engines.

In the end you'll get what I said all along: a system which targets in the true sense the mainstream, that means the extreme casual gamer and non-gamer. You'll get fantastic party games, you'll get "eye-toy' experiences, you'll get a sophisticated power glove. This isn't a controller for long gaming sessions because your arm and/or wrist will get tired.

The shells will be used predominantly to play older compatible games.

I tried to simulate controls with a remote for a genre with the simplest controls of them all: racers. Steering, accelerate, break. Steering with the controller seems easy, but how do you break and accelerate? Going up and down while steering right and left? Try it, It is awkward at best.

By no means this system will be a serious competitor to the big two, and it is not intended as such. It might be successful to win back the gamers who played NES and SNES and got out of gaming; it might be successful as a family console. It will be a system for a niche market. Don't expect triple A titles, don't expect big developers to develop games around this controller except for in-house smaller development teams which create spin-offs of franchises and smaller developers who look for games with low development costs.

The Revolution is an add-on, and a variety-offer for gamers with another console; and the controller also gives hints that for games as we know it and make lots of money the current standard controllers with tight controls and control options cannot be replaced yet.
