View Full Version : Official Nintendo Game Boy flash cart (DMG-MMSA-JPN)

I managed to get ahold of two interesting Game Boy carts today. One of them is DIS-CGB-ADME-USA (a demo cart, listed on the Digitpress rarity guide as R8) and a white cart with seven numbered gray boxes with an official Nintendo copyright (1999) and the part number DMG-MMSA-JPN.

I know that Nintendo (in Japan) was big on having 'kiosks' available where you could go to get a cart (be it GB, SNES, NES, etc) flashed officially much in the same way you'd go and buy a can of pop (i.e. pop your official flash cart in, select 'Tetris' from a menu, pay your $2.00, and have it flashed) I assume that this is one of those carts, however, it's not listed in the Digitpress rarity guide at all. While I understand that the rarity on this item will likely be R0 (how can you quantify how many of these were made in a foreign country) I was curious about any reasons why this wasn't listed.

I did a search on the forums and couldn't find anything, and a search online only seems to bring up a Japanese site selling these carts for $25.00 each.

Any further insight would be appreciated :)

A lot of Japanese games are not included yet but I will add the memory cart so it will be up the next time it's updated. It will be under "Demos, Samplers & Non-Games". Here's some more info taken from here (http://skizo.org/faq.php3?id=15%5Bid%5D&sys=NDS):

GB Memory Cartridge (White) - DMG/MGB/SGB/SGB2/GBC/GBA/GBP/SP: For 2,500 yen, Japanese Game Boy players could download new Nintendo Power games at kiosks located inside Japanese convince stores. Considered a cheap way to get games like Balloon Fight GB, Pac-Man, and Metroid II, this was also the only way to get games like Super Mario Bros. DX. This service was ended on August 31st, 2002.

Awesome, thank you very much :) The $25.00 price I found on the net seems to be pretty much bang-on with the above mentioned sale price of 2,500 Yen.

Does the site you mention still sell them or is it referring to them?

I know the site that I mentioned previously *was* selling it, but for the life of me I'm unable to find it again. I know I started with the Google search result at http://mobile-gb.com/ and worked from there. I'm not sure if they (mobile-gb.com) actually *sell* the cart (I can't read Japanese), though.

Unfortunately, that research was done a few days ago, although I should've bookmarked it. Seems to be relatively difficult to find online. My apologies.
