View Full Version : Anyone got non-game promotional gaming goodies?

Anyone got in their collections things like shop display's or anything like that? I know a lot of people have things that you'd expect to find hanging up on a wall or ina window of a game shop to promote certain games or systems.

I also know a few people have actually got shelving and all sorts ripped straight out of game shops to add to that "Game shop" effect for their "Room of doom"

I was thinking about perhaps asking around certain stores for obsolete non-game promotional items that they would perhaps use to promote a game, and then simply ditch in the garbage. Things like point of sale units and maybe oversized cardboard cutouts and the like...

Anyone actually collect this sort of thing?

What about press packs? Anyone got any unique press packs from certain games that are very limited, and only given out to press and magazines to review the game?

I've got a couple bits here and there, I collect Playstation 2 launch goodies (those blue ponchos, shirts, bags, pens, blah blah blah).

What I really want to collect is store displays/kiosks, but I'm in a 1 bedroom apt with my gf right now, so no dice on anything that takes up too much space.

I've had the chance to get tons of them, but they just take up WAY too much space.

I had the old target PS2 Kiosk in perfect condition with space for 2 monitors, controllers, everything hooked up and working, I had to get rid of it, just too damn big, I kept all the artwork though.

I have bags and bags full of stuff like this from E3 shows back when I used to work for The Mushroom. Fun times indeed. I was one of those jerks carrying more free crap than I weighed. Midway had the best, strongest bags to carry stuff in every year.

When I worked at Target back in '96, we got these Nintendo 64 promo kits that consisted of:

N64 logo white T-shirt
N64 logo flashlight/keychain
N64 VHS promo tape
N64 "dogtag" w/chain
Various Nintendo stickers and promo materials.

We had 100+ of these kits that nobody wanted so we each took a few and dumped the rest. I still use one of the N64 T-shirts (which is now several rags) to polish my shoes.

T-shirts, posters, promo posters, pens, postcards... Stuffed animals, mini baseball bats, a Paper Mario and Quake III promo cardboard cut-out thing... And a few swag bags from two Tokyo Game Shows. That's about everything. I just can't bring myself to throw anything away.

I've got a Rival Schools standee, it's pretty big. This is the only pic I could find of one (thus not my pic) as mine is in my closet and I don't feel like whipping it out.

Go to your local EB...

Look around at store displays, signs, glowing lights etc.
I have all that in and around my room.

I have over boxed 40 store displays sitting under my bed. Plus any single thing I can get my hand on.

I've got a few large standees (most notably: Geist, Viewtiful Joe 2, and in a couple of weeks I will have Mario Superstar Baseball). I have some other promotional standees, mini size (mario v DK, Mario Kart DD, Yoshi Topsy Turvy, Wario Twisted, etc.). I also have a lot of wierd random items that I got from a lot of different locations. I learned a while back that if you get to know people in game stores, and prove to them just how psycho you are over gaming, they will usually go out of your way to give you stuff.

I have a few large dreamcast standees.

-Crazy Taxi 1 & 2
-Shenmue (I caught hell at the store I worked at because EVERYONE wanted this standee - but I called dibs.) :P
-NFL 2k1

-A promotional CD soundtrack for Jet Grind Radio.
-and a standee for Dark Cloud 1.

T-shirts for Grim Fandango (which has never been worn, but still looks like it's seen better days), Onimusha 1, and Myst Exile. I wear the myst t-shirt to this day. It looks pretty ratty. But the picture on the shirt is just so cool. :D

oh... and a leather keychain for the N64 version Crusin' Exotica.

I have a press pack for Metroid Prime 2: Echoes that is probably kind of rare. It consists of a folder with Samus on the front, a sealed copy of MP2, a couple papers saying how great the game is, and (get this) two Metroid Prime 2: Echoes cookies!

I still have the cookies. I wouldn't try to eat 'em, cause they're kinda old now. but, I thought they were neat, so I hung ont them. Can't be many of those out there.

I've also got a 2-sided hanging sign for Zelda II, Adventures of Link. I got that when I used to work at Kay-Bee. I used to have a standee of Mike Tyson for Punchout. I tossd that after his rape conviction.

All my standees are in there boxes.

I also have this VERY COOL nintendo "WHO ARE YOU?" Floor mat where it has all these nintendo characters on it.

I'll have to take a picture next time I go home.

My room of doom can be found here:

http://students.rwu.edu/dfrickel920/Collectiion/collection.htm

However you can't see any of the promo items as alot of them are in boxes and stuff for when I get a bigger room to fit them all.

But its all there...mostly under the bed :P
