ok so i am considering getting a ds sometime soon.i just have a few questions since i know there are some dsheads (how creative) in these parts.
1.are there any crazy special editions or cool japanese systems out?if so what kind and how pretty of ap enny do they usually run for.
2.i know there a ton of good games for the system coming out this fall, but a nice list would be great.no not great.awesome.wait,not awesome either but greatly awesome.
3.how is the battery life on the little guy.
4.is there a screen protector or anything?i am really parinoid of messing up the screen or something.not sure why though.
that should be all, thank you kind folks in advance.

Battery life is pretty good, and there are screen protectors, but they may hamper touch-screen sensitivity.

I seem to get 10+ hours out of mine (depends if you are playing DS games or GBA games).
There are TONS of "SE" consoles in Japan. playasia.com has several of them.
There are officially licensed Hori screen protectors both here and state side running about $6. They come with 2 protectors per package: a silicate for the touch screen, and an adhesive for the top screen. Everywhere I have read so far recommends the silicate, but not the adhesive.

I seriously get about 10 hours on my ds with one charge as well.
You want a game list? Here is some stuff I'm looking foward to:
Resident Evil
Lunar: Dragon Song
Lost in Blue
Real Time Conflict: Shogun Empires
Age of Empires: Age of Kings
Animal Crossing: Wild World
I'm sure I'm forgetting some good ones, but that should get you started.

10+ Hours on mine and i honestly wouldn't bother with a screen protector.
There is a special Nintendogs edition with pawprints but i don't think it's all that special. I'm still hoping they'll release a game and watch edition.
To add to sucker punches list there's also:
Trace Memory
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Trauma Centre: Under the Knife
Metroid pinball
and a whole bunch of other crazy stuff is in the pipeline.

i remember seeing a pepsi one in japan,i wonder if i could still get a holld of one.

Touchscreens work great. There are two different touchscreens though. A quick search will help you find the topic regarding them, or you can google it. THere's a Grid and a Grain screen. I have the grid, which is considered the 'lower class' screen, but have not had any problems with it. Screen protectors should NOT be adhesive. There's enough static electricity there to hold a protector just like a Palm Pilots.
There are numerous colors available in Japan, along with a few special edition version, like the SHonen Jump version which is red. Just to let you know in advance, if you get the Shonen (red) or iQue (chinese) versions, you currently wont be able to hack it with a passme. I've heard that the WiFi hacks still work, but after researching it, it's really not worth doing unless you want your WiFi network dedicated to your DS. PassMe does claim to have a test model that's working with the Red DS, but they haven't released or made any official announcements regarding it's compatability yet.
As for a list of good games, I can only offer advice considering the games I already own, in which case I STRONGLY recommend Advance Wars Dual Strike, along with Kirby Canvas Curse (the most fun I have had with a game in years).
I thoroughly enjoy Polarium and Nintendogs. A quick search on these boards will point out that Polarium tends to only appeal to a certain group of people. Although I am under the impression that most of the naysayers haven't ever played the game, and simply go with their assumptions. Either way, polarium has taken a price drop, and the difficulty level has made many a people return it. So finding a used one is fairly easy also.
Nintendogs ate up a lot of time. It's also aggravated me to all hell when I train my dog to do something, and he doesn't feel like doing it in the middle of a competition. Henceforth embarassing me amongst a digital audience.
Once again, I STRONGLY recommend Advance Wars Dual Strike and Kirby Canvas Curse (Kirby = Enjoyment and Pleasure)
Hopefull next week I'll be able to tell you about Ultimate Spider-Man. Hope that was helpful.

The Pepsi edition is very limited and was given away in a competition. You had to collect lots and lots of stickers from Pepsi bottles. I tried, but didn't get one. LOL
But I do have a lot of Super Mario bottlecaps now. :D

Nintendo is also giving away DSs in different colors with the names of the winners engraved into it. I took part in the competition, but unfortunately I didn't get it. :(

No need to worry about battery life. As already stated numerous times 10 hours shouldn't be a problem. :D

for what it's worth...
there's been a guy on ebay trying to sell a pepsi ds for a ridiculously expensive price (couple thousand) and the pics make it look like an electric blue with very small pepsi branding in the corner of the top cover. it's really nothing impressive, so you shouldn't go out of your way and pay a ton of cash to get one.

dunno if you're into pokemon... LOL
anyways, i got an electric blue DS and it is pretty awesome. i need some better games for it though, since all ihave is Mario. usually battery life is pretty good like everyone else said, it is around 10 hours. I am going to send my DS back however, as there was a wonky pixel on the Touch screen which is;nt always the right color, so you might want to looks out for that.

depends on what you're including in the game count... japanese games? demos?
but there's 49 total regular retail US releases, not including the metroid demo

This was discussed here (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=71890). Some useful links there, too.

You're thinking about collecting before you even have a collection? I love it! Nintendo have us hooked!
Enjoy your DS, sir. It is certain to be money well spent :)

haha, that does sound weird.i just figured since there system isn't too old and there arn't too many games for it then it wouldn't be too hard to collect for it.but we'll see what happens.
and i think i won't be the only person getting a ds this fall, the line up is just so damn good.

So long as you've enjoyed any Castlevania ever, you'll love the one for DS. Wonderful game. Lost in Blue is also very good, plus the rest of the killer fall lineup I'm sure you already know about.
One thing though, where are all the accessories? I go to EB and see like one carrying case and one pack of replacement styluses (/styli?) and not much else. Not saying I want to pimp it out or have all the useless shit they've released for the PSP, but a carrying case that doesn't look like a purse would be good, and maybe a better stylus.

there's different things already available for both the GBA (mainly) and also DS that let you play music on it. There is the official Play-Yan, of which a micro version is going to come out and then also the GBA Movie Player, of which 3 versions are available and then also the Supercard, there could be more. Personally I have the GBA Movie Player2, it runs stuff off a compact flash card and can run movies and music (converts both into its own format) and also txt files, pictures and any gba program you want (inc nes roms etc). If you have a DS passme or have flashme'd the bios, you can also run DS homebrew and apps, something i want to do

Hmmm... They have impeccable timing for removing an article.
Anyway, you can tell by looking at it. If you can see little grid lines on the screen, than you have the Grid Screen, and if it simply looks grainy, you have the Grain Screen.
TADA!

The article is still there -- you just can't link directly to GameFAQ's stuff. That's considered, you know, BANDWITH STEALING! (gasp!) :D

Buy a silver DS then go to www.decalgirl.com and buy the NES skin for the DS for like $12 or $15 however much they are and voila! you have an NES DS :) Decal Girl has a lot of different skins for all the current systems (and iPods too) but the NES one is my fave. I'm planning on buying the DS and GC NES skins, and I already have the Limited Ed NES SP, so then they'll all match my NES...and my belt buckle :)

That's all thanks to our Green Tag sale. Hope you enjoyed your 50% off :) Actually, I don't remember if Puyo Pop's green tag but I know for a fact Polarium and Retro are. I'll be picking up Retro verrrrry soon. There are some games that I'm still holding out 'til Green Tag goes 90% which at the latest will be after X-Mas.

Hey - that NES Retro skin from the DS is pretty awesome. I've been waiting for a Limited Edition, but this skin looks like it'll push me over the edge to get one of the plain silver ones.
The "electric blue" DS is purportedly a Limited Edition for the U.S. (although it is a L.E. that just plain sucks - couldn't they do any better?).
There are two Nintendogs bundles coming out for the U.S. that have teal and pink DSes, I believe.
They will also soon be releasing a Mario Kart DS bundle that has a red DS sporting a checkered flag for that carry-string and "decals" you can put on it.
None of them are as cool as the Black and White ones available in Japan.
