View Full Version : Katrina Cost Me An Item...

I won an auction and paid for it on the day the auction ended via PayPal. I waited two or three weeks and no item so I send an e-mail of inquiry. No response. I send a second e-mail and this time I did get a response but not one I liked getting. The person said that the hurricane destroyed everything they had, said he was sorry but there was nothing else he could do. I don't even know if there's anyway I can respond to that.

The seller has perfect feedback, 100% positive, so I'm assuming he's being truthful. I guess I should be thankful I didn't lose that much, something like $34 or so...

The least you could do is ask for a partial or full refund.

If you paid via paypal, you can always open a case with them, sadly enough there ARE people who use katrina to make and fraud money from people.

So are you going to request a chargeback of funds from Paypal?

Dude.... I really dont know what to say to your response.

If it was me and it was only 34 dollars , I would let it slide. I mean if you know that is the area where they lived and believe they are being truthful.... Consider it a donation of sorts.

I mean for pete's sake if they really did lose everything. I wouldnt expect a refund , but thats just me.

Second edit: If paypal does offer help for Katrina victims then maybe you should look into that.

(I seriously want to say something negative but wont)

Say something negative, I don't care. There probably have been MILLIONS of people who used katrina as an excuse to MAKE money, and it's pathetic to what extent what some Ebay people will do to scam money off of people. I'm not saying this dude is a criminal, I definately wouldn't leave a negative if i did not get my money back, but i would take a step of caution.

100% feedback doesn't mean they wouldn't screw someone over, i've seen plenty of ebay feedbacks where all of a sudden someone's 100% feedback turns into 50% because they just started to randomly screw someone people over.
I'm not thinking the WORST of everyone, I'm being VERY cautious with my money over the internet, you don't know who this guy is, you don't even know his real name, his real address, or his real phone number. (unless of course, he's talked to him over the phone). It's all too easy to screw someone over the internet, and even more on ebay.

Yeah true.... But then again alot of things can go wrong in the world.

If the guy has huge 100% feedback (who knows) and its 34 dollars. I suspect they are not trying to scam anybody.

Edit:
I suppose you would know in a few days if negative feedback rolls in , but I am going out on a limb and saying this wont happen.

P.S. If you cant spare 34 dollars to a loss or mistake or a disaster then you shouldnt be buying video games (just my opinion though)

Well, as I pointed out, the seller has 100% positive feedback and he doesn't have a rating of just a few hundred but is currently is at 4787 which shows a couple years of being very concientious in my opinion. And he is located in Mississippi, which was one of the states hit hard by Katrina. He may not only have lost everything he was selling but may have also suffered tremendous personal losses as well and doesn't need me on his butt right now. I'd like to have what I ordered but in the overall big picture, it's just not that important.

I'd give them another $34, they need it more than me.

Its pretty easy to find their address on ebay.... if its Washington State, then you might have a case 8-)

If its LA or MS, I would say let it go
