I have a Namco Museum Vol 2 cab in great condition, monitor, buttons, sound are all great. The housing box for the joysticks and buttons is from a batman forever cab and is painted black. other than that everything is original.
The possible trade is for a 1 slot MVS cab with metal slug from a mr jims pizza. Both sides are painted blue, which either means its not original, or original and the guy painted it. The marquee and the rest of the paper art is slightly sun damaged and are for fatal fury special. The monitor has a slight brown haze, a little warping in the top right, and it flikered a blue haze for a couple seconds during my 45 minute playtime.
So is this an even trade or are either one of us getting screwed?
I dont mind the cab being blue, and i can live with the monitor for a awhile since metal slug is brown anyway.
thanks for the help!
Value wise, he's probably getting a better deal... the Namco Classics Vol 2 PCB alone is worth more than a Neo Geo and Metal Slug cart... the cabinets both sound about even, since neither are dedicated, although the Metal Slug art would be nice since that's what's in it, but whatever :P .
What about the monitor sizes? Are they both 19"? Personally, I think a Neo Geo cab needs a 25", but the Namco would probably be fine with a 19" (although a 25" wouldn't hurt). Also, the Namco Classics is pretty rare compared to a Neo Geo.

I've watched several Namco Classics sell for multiple times more than Neos. Keep the Namco action - you can get a Neo Geo MVS anywhere.

What they said. ^ :D
I just wanted to add that you can strip the paint off of cabinet(s) if you want to, often leaving the original artwork underneath intact. Depending on how the cab was repainted, you can strip off the top layer with a heat gun or a chemical stripper and save the original art.
'Course, sometimes cabs are repainted because the original art was beat up to begin with, but I've seen a lot of remarkable paint-removal restorations that had pristine art underneath the repaint.

damn, thanks for all the help, i have no clue about arcade stuff and i really appreciate the help.
So there is an arcade auction oct 15 and i am really aching for an mvs cab. Now that i have this new info, would the namco machine pay for, dare i say, a 4 slot with a 25 inch screen? Or am i hust getting to excited. Like i said, i'm an arcade rookie, and have no idea on the value scales on machines. They all run under the "exspensive" category to me. Thanks again.

Well, at the last arcade auction I went to, the Namco machine went for like $700 or so (was in fantastic shape, too), while the most expensive Neo Geo (of the several there) went for $250.

I've purchased two MVS cabs from that auction, a one slot with a 25" monitor and a 2 slot with a 19". I know I paid under or around $200 for each of them. Neither looked original and needed paint and stuff, but both worked and came with games.

i dont know about the namco, but you can get a neo geo pretty cheap at arcade auctions...and sometimes even private sellers.
i got my 4 slot in near perfect condition (4 games, proper cab, original paint, etc) for $350
good luck getting a neo no matter how....you'll def. enjoy it
Yeah, if you're wanting to get rid of the Namco, I'd probably ebay it, and not take it to the auction, as there are good days and bad days (for sellers, the other way around for buyers ;) ). You can never be sure about some of the expensive stuff at auctions, if nobody knows what it is/it's value, it might sell for only a couple hundred bucks... at least the auctions that I've been to, none of the arcades ever seem to go for their ebay value, except sometimes the stupid person that bids way up on a popular machine (or the buybacks).
I would recommend buying the NG at an auction though... there always seems to be those, and one of the last auctions I went to, I picked one up with a Metal Slug 2 and Bust-A-Move cart for $120 (didn't work there, but I got it home and it worked :) ).
